So first off it was only about 95 tonight which was nice, the weather was great.

Skyler green is in trouble, This is the second game in a row I have seen him drop more balls during warm ups than anyone else, he doesnt even run like a reciever. Its too bad but his punt return ability is not going to be enough. However, I think he will clear waivers and make it to the practice squad.

Mike vanderjagt, before I even get to the comical finish with the guy I have to vent about him from other scenarios. This is the second game in a row again he is just lounging around during warmups, he goes over and kicks one ball for every 4 suishams. He just looks disinterested and lethargic. To start the third quarter he was talking to a vikings player on the vikes 30 and the rest of the cowboys were back getting lined up at our 20 for the kickoff, he turned and looked and then ran down to kick off, it was like a kid getting caught late for class or something...??? Then to quote joe avezzano his kickoff was a horrendous. 4 second hang time and landed at the 13......that is not going to cut it.......Then his misses were just pure comedy. They were both in the end of the field that I am on and coming off his foot they both looked awful. Something is up with this guy, he seems to be a real putz, and now we have to without question keep suisham at least for the opener and that is going to cost someone a job hopefully not an offensive tackle or linebacker.....Idiot kicker.

This was a really fun game, the second half was a blast to watch and the crowd for some strange reason was into it. 4th preseason game, backups in on a work and school night in north texas and alot of people stayed all the way through and were more into the 4th and 0t than the rest of the game.

Tony Romo was fabulous, he showed everything he has tonight, mobility, intelligence, touch, arm strength. He signed his one year extension and I think he is our guy. The interception in the end zone was craytons fault he kind of jogged through the slant and romo whizzed it by him thinking there was no help there, crayton should have been there. Romo made one of the most exciting plays I have seen in a while in the 2nd quarter when gurode snapped the ball over his head in the shotgun and romo went and got it, evaded three defenders and hit rector between the numbers 25 yards down the field. Cant say enough about romo, he got out of sure sack situations tonight about 4 times, very impressive and people shouldnt question his arm strength anymore he showed tonight he can make all the throws making two fabulous deep balls, one to rector down the sideline and another to hurd which should have won the game in overtime but it went right through hurds hands...nothing you can do.

Bledsoe was good tonight, but he had no time, they were just running quick plays because they had no time. He was under a constant jail break. He got hit in the head on a busted play, that is unfortunate, hopefully the concussion wont linger.

Bradie james was injured because newman missed a tackle. Newman had travis taylor stopped short of a first down and newman was faked out of his jock leading to a pileup 5 yards farther down the field. In the pile up Bradie james came up holding his knee and then favoring it for the rest of the series and then finally coming out. I am holding my breath on this because no one is talking about it, the announcers and the post game said nothing and I think that is because they dont pay close enough attention but james was really favoring his right knee and came out of the game.

Watkins looked like he made some mistakes tonight, its a good time to make them so it is ok. He looked like he made a bad read and went underneath when newman was expecting help to the inside, it looked like newman forced robinson inside thinking he was getting help from watkins and watkins wasnt there, touchdown vikings.

Abram elam is a terrific tackler.

Jason hatcher needs to find a role in pass rushing situations, he has something off the edge, he has a high motor and he doesnt quit, he was coming all the way through till the last play of overtime.

Bobby carpenter is constantly falling down. He seems to be unsure of himself or something.

Andre gurode and both guards were manhandled. This makes me worried because I believe jacksonville is a notch better than minnesota up front. The good thing is when adams is back against jax we will game plan I am sure to help the interior line and I would imagine we would call running plays much like we did against detroit last year where we ran alot of stretch and outside the tackle stuff early to get those big tackles running. I dont think we are going to do diddly on the ground in jax.

Mcquistan was solid again.

Sam hurd and jamaica rector are locks for this team and I would imagine rector will be active in jax. He reminds me of glenn so much live in the stadium, he can make people miss in open spaces and he is very quick and agile. Hopefully we have found something there.

Did I mention vanderjagt is a real putz?

oh and how could I forget, When they came back from the break and the cowboys had their third series, you know who was on the field and the entire crowd, myself included stood up and watched, flash bulbs everywhere and everyone was into the game all of a sudden. Owens looked like he was going through the motions also, hopefully he is healthy next sunday we will need him with the short passing we will be running against that D.

The september 17th game against the skins is going to be fantastic. When the skins are here and the stadium is full and then owens runs out there opposite glenn, this place is going to explode and I cant wait to be a part of it.

Sean suishams practice kickoffs were going through the back of the endzone! Then his kickoffs in the game went into the endzone, he has to be on the active roster for at least week 1, and that means someone is out of a job.

Demarcus ware looks insane. Now I know he didnt get a sack tonight or this whole preseason, but he bullrushed mckinney a couple of times early and it was nuts, he just is going to be off the charts this year.

Vandy is a putz..

I had a ton of fun tonight, most I have ever enjoyed a preseason game. I was really proud of that group that played the second half and the overtime, they went 110 percent the whole time and myself and the remaining crowd really appreciated it. Hatcher was everywhere and kevin burnett played great.

I miss babe laufenberg and the ticket needs to fix some problems with the radio broadcast, they are at commercials during games. It has happened like 12 times now between tonight and sat, the play is happening and the radio broadcast is advertising hooters...they come back missing entire plays....very bad......and they totally ruined the post game show, KLUV was much much better at this.

Fabini and pettiti seem similar and they both played well, I cant see us cutting either.

The vikings tackled a number of guys low tonight and the hit on vanderjagt on the extra point to go to overtime seemed very bush league to me.

The vikings are going to give the Commanders a headache that opening night, they have an experienced qb who gets the ball out very quick and if the skins dont have portis this is a game the vikes could steal in washington, they can pressure the qb with 7 man fronts and keep deep help. Having said that, the vikings gave our passing game no respect when the starters were, they were in 8 man fronts every play and they wrecked everything, can you say blue print? So we are going to have to find a way to stop that.

Oh and did I mention Vandy is a putz?

I'm with you on Elam, dude was everywhere tonight. His effort reminded me of the way we saw Beriault play.. ALL OUT.

I hope he makes the roster.

Well There is one thing here that doesnt surprise me. Carpenter always falling down. He stumbles when he runs, it almost looks ********.

The 8 man front thing is what we are going to see till we show we can beat it. The good thing is that despite the 8 man fronts, we did throw the ball well and the QB's did not get sacked.

I don't think they even threw a flag on that helmet to helmet shot that Bledsoe took on the fumbled snap, or did I miss it? Need to watch it again, but that was a cheap shot. Until that happened I thought Bledsoe played well.

I'm having a really hard time getting a read on this game since I didn't get to watch it. This is probably the most useful report I've read so far. Most other posts are like...OL sucked...Vandy sucked...JJ sucked..., but don't really offer much detail. When I look at the stat sheet, we dominated in every category except points...

Okay...so what was really the story in this game? It sounds like our OL couldn't run block very well and the Minny pass rush was good. Was Minny blitzing at all? The stat sheet says we were still fairly effective passing. This is important. During a regular season game, if the box is stacked and other teams are blitzing, we have to make them pay. It seems like, in this game, we didn't exactly make them pay, but we have the makings of a passing game that WILL have to be respected when the real bullets fly. If what I have said is true, then we should be fine. Right?

Defensively, it sounds like we didn't get many turnovers. While not the greatests thing ever, it doesn't seem to be the end of the world. The stat sheet says the Minny wasn't gangbusters on our defense. Just because we didn't dominate like in other games, doesn't necessarily mean that we played poorly.

How long were the starters in?

So...what's the real story here?

i gotta admit - it's beginning to concern me how frequently carpenter dives at a point on the ground a ballcarrier just vacated.

does he wear contacts or somethin'?

Probably a combination of the first team OL not run blocking well and Julius having a bad game. Minnesota appeared to be blitzing but Bledsoe handled it pretty well until he took that nasty helmet hit on the botched snap. Brad Johnson had a good game, but I don't think we put any pressure on him aside from an almost sack by Ware on a bull rush.

I think Gurode made some mistakes, and didn't exactly do a good job vs Williams. Barber and Thompson looked good, even if it was against second stringers..

Skyler Green and Vanderjagt both sucked.

Thanks Theebs, really appreciate your comments.

Vandy looked the same at TC - lethargic & disinterested. Unfortunately, that's the way in practices for kickers. I'm still blindly hoping / expecting him to be fine once the real football starts!

Thanks again.

I was never a Romo fan early on. Had nothing to do with the Henson-Romo stuff. Did I root for him? Absolutely. I just didn't see much talent.

I liked his personality. Funny, blunt fella. Also seemed to play with some energy, which is fun. But I always looked at him as an on-the-verge-of-getting-cut guy.

I'm so glad I was wrong.

He continues to show more and more sides to his game. People questioned his arm and ability to throw downfield. I didn't publicly voice these questionis but I absolutely thought them. He did all he could do to silence those concerns tonight.

Against Seattle, he seemed to have the makings of a nice game manager with some mobility to escape the pass rush. Tonight, he played like a guy capable of leading a team and putting it on his shoulders every drive.

How many times has he orchestrated lengthy drives this preseason?

Yeah, yeah. It's just the preseason. But that holds true for every player and every team.

There's absolutely no guarantee he ever amounts to anything other than a possibly good backup that was hyped as a potential starter. That's worth repeating for not only Romo, but again, everyone. But there's just something about this guy. He's grown on me, that's for sure. The signs he's flashed are hard to ignore.

Certainly a great reason to be optimistic.

His time will come. One of the best things (IMO) that the Cowboys have are young TEs and RBs (with good hands) to help out a developing QB. Combine that with a fairly young D and the team has a lot of potential upside.

Personally, I am hoping for a Steve Spurrier type of guy on the sidelines in the future. Then the rest will be off-set by that HC.

I'd have to agree, for the first he made me believe that if Bledsoe went down for any extended time he won't have a job to return to.

Very nice report Theebs and much appreciated by those of us who didn't get to see the game, live or otherwise.

I was really hoping for Manny Lawson in the draft but was only a little disappointed when we went with Carpenter instead. That disappointment is starting to grow.

Our biggest need in the offseason was Kicker (not WR as Jerry seemed to think) and was very disappointed when we went with Vanderjagdt instead of Vinatieri. That disappointment is also growing rapidly. I've never liked Vandy's attitude and it appears that it has only gotten worse since coming to Dallas.

The signing of Kyle Kosier to replace Larry Allen at LG had many Cowboys fans scratching their heads... we still are. I hope Cory Proctor is a real surprise waiting to happen.

Let the Romo/Staubach comparisons begin... :laugh2:

Ya it was a cheap shot he upper cutted him in the face with a forearm, Minny all nite looked like they were trying to hurt someone with there tackling low and pushing of players in the pile when the play was dead.
