how could belicheat be frustrated with maroney? he only gets 5 carries a game cause the pats go 5 wide 90% of the time.

better throw in a couple players or a pile of treasure.

I would say throw in Carp but hes not worth much more then a ham sandwich.

Carp is still a first round pick, doesn't fit for us but is still valuable.

Plus Miami will trade just to keep DMC out of their division. Or they can roll the dice with one of those QBs..even though they got Beck in the 2nd round 40th pick last year.

This article really makes sense since Bill Belichick always divulges his interest in certain players before the draft.

Agreed. Belicheck won't even talk in his press conferences, let alone say something like "we're interested in DMac". And if he did say it, it was to draw some interest from other teams to trade up.

The pats are going to break every offensive record this year. They won't take Dmac, they don't need him.

They have an aging defense. Asante is most likely gone, Harrison is old as the hills, Seau is older than dirt, and Bruschi is no spring chicken either.

They will trade down, or take the best defensive player on the board, either the DE Long, or Dorsey (although I see Miami taking Dorsey).

Book it.

They can try to grab McFadden but they will have to try and re-sign Moss, Welker and Asante Samuel

their cap could go to hell unless they take some paycuts

That's why they'll trade out of the high 1st for lower 1st and a future as always...

Jerry: I'll offer 2 #1 picks for your 49ers pick.
Kraft: Look something shiny on the table!

Here's the value of each pick according to ESPN's draft pick value chart. If the Dolphins have the first overall pick in the draft, their pick is worth 3000 points. For argument's sake, let's say the Cowboys pick at #21 (800 points) and #30 (600 points) overall. That totals 1400 points in value. The Cowboys would still have to come up with another 1600 points to even-out the trade. Assuming the Cowboys pick at around the 30th spot overall, trading all their 2007 draft picks will not equal 3000 points. Even if you throw in players, I think McFadden is too rich for the Cowboys' blood right now. I've kind of reserved myself that barring a miracle, McFadden will not be a Dallas Cowboy in 2008. Let's just hope the Patriots or another NFC East team does not grab him.

I doubt the Patriots will find any takers to trade down. Last year the Lions, Bucs, Browns, Cardinals and even Raiders held gigantic neon signs over their heads all offseason flashing "PLEASE SOMEONE TRADE WITH US". No takers. There really hasn't been much movement at all in the Top 10 in some time. The fact is that it's cost prohibitive to have a Top 5 pick. When you take JaMarcus Russell and pay him $30 million, you're automatically paying him the same money as Tony Romo and Tom Brady make. Before he ever takes a snap, he'll be among the highest paid at his position. He'll either live up to the contract or he won't (most likely wont), but he'll never be a value.

What will make it particularly difficult to trade down this draft is a lack of firepower at the top of the draft. I really don't see an elite super blue chipper in the draft other than McFadden. Long is a nice high-motor guy, but I don't see him ever being a 15 sack guy in the NFL. Dorsey has potential, but the fact that a player who is hobbled with knee injuries his entire final season can make still be a Top 3 pick speaks volumes about this draft.

I imagine the Patriots will go the free agency route to solve the LB problems. Reportedly, Belichick wants to revamp the LB corps the way he revamped the WR corps last year. Belichick's system is demanding and complicated for LB's, that's why he always falls back on veterans like Brown and Seau. It will be hard for a rookie to have an instant impact. Brandon Merriweather is having fits picking up the defense. One thing that will help them is they have smart and versatile guys like Vrabel and Adalius Thomas, who can move inside and out. They really won't have to overhaul the unit as much as add a good player or two and reshuffle. The DL is still very effective and all still in their 20's.

Welker isn't going anywhere. He signed a 7 year offer as a restricted free agent. I imagine they'll find a way to resign Moss and let Stallworth walk, as Chad Jackson should be healthy next year.

Exactly. That's why I now hope the Pats pick is as high as possible (short of getting McFadden) and they can't trade out of it, leaving them with a huge cap hit on a player that might not be that great. IMO, this draft is weak at the top (and probably overall), so I don't think they'll get their money's worth. They might have to do like we did with Russell Maryland and be left with a solid, but not great, player.

I don't think the Dolls would want to give an AFC team (the Pats) a gift like McFadden.
Moreover, the Dolls need help. Fast.
Quickest way is to get Dallas's two drafts picks, albeit middle round to low No. 1 draft picks.

I think giving up two No. 1 for a RB, no matter how talented, is a toss-up.
I'd love to see McFadden wear a star. But I'd also love for us to have two good picks (WR and secondary help) next year.

The Dolphins will make the pick that most helps their team. What the Patriots do with the pick right after should be completely irrelevant.

They're gonna end up with #1. I think that if they can't trade out, they have to take McFadden, and just dream up ways to get him and Brown out there together. He's the best talent in the draft. If you pass that at #1, you're just wasting the pick.

I think the cheats will trade on the cheap just to get out of that spot, something all others wouldn't dare since they would never hear the end of "That's why they are always picking high, they are clueless!", while the cheats will hear "That's why they are the top franchise, they know the price you have to pay is to high, so yada yada yada... They are genious!"

I know this is dreaming but indulge me.

Remember the pre-season when the Browns were expected to go 3-13 and 49'ers were expected to be in the playoff hunt? Oh well.

Yep, I always go by the "draft the player most likely to end up on the Ring of Honorl" philosophy in the first round. It would be impossible to pass up McFadden if I were the Dolphins.

Yup, it's too bad how things changed. Oh well, I won't worry about it now. Now is the time to enjoy our team's successful push toward the playoffs.

This is exactly why the draft pick penalty was hogwash. The Commish knew they had two first rounders. If he really wanted to make a statement about cheating, he would have taken away the highest pick, instead, they get the best player in the draft. Yeah, some penalty.
