roy williams for chad johnson

wow, let the chad johnson thing go, he is not coming here, especially after spending a lot of $$$$$$$ on barber and newman....salary cap is getting TIGHT and no way do we bring in another high demanding vet in addition to cutting Roy which is going to cost more cap space and then signing at least some one to sort of replace him.....

this is not your fantasy league, its not going to happen

Who is the backup SS if roy isn't around for whatever reason?

Hamlin... and the only other strong safety on the roster is undrafted rookie free agent Dowayne Davis from Syracuse...

Exactly. I like having Roy Williams and not once have I said he should be released or traded. Right now I do expect all players under contract to be at every single scheduled team workout be it voluntary or mandatory.

Jerry pays his players very well and this is part of their job but more important is doing whatever it takes to get to that next level and right now this team has not shown that and until they do I as a fan expect every able body player to make every effort to be at all of these workouts.

If coaches did not think any of this was important they would not be holding these workouts

And again the missing piece in all of this, Roy scheduled a vacation with his family long before the OTA's where scheduled. So it is not like he did this on purpose. And the last time i checked, family is way more important than football, and if you fans can't understand that, then most likely its because you don't have one.

If this was Andre Gurode it would be a non issue, but because it's everybody's whipping boy, then we have a 3 page thread about something that was already explained weeks ago.

Again you wanna knock Roy for something, at least wait until he actually does something.

How long has the season been over with? I'm not missing anything nor am I knocking Roy or at least no more than any other player who misses these scheduled worked outs.

Your job is that of a football player you are paid damn well to do it the least any player can do is give the team the priority it deserves.

These player also know that after the draft is over that mini camps and the OTA will start taking place so Roy had time from the end of the season until now to take his vacation.

When we start winning in the post season then great I will not say another word on this issue until then yes you better believe that I think every single effort should be made by all of our players who are under contract to attend It is the least they can do.

As I said before I like Roy and want him to be with us for a long time but I refuse to make excuses for any player when I think they are wrong, sometime I think some fans will excuse anything if they like the player at least I'm even handed when it comes to this type of thing.

I had a guess, but it makes no sense at all in this context.

True, but then the opposite is true too. If you dislike the player, no matter what they do you will find fault which is what we have been seeing as of late.

I agree and that is one thing about this site that gets me people get labled as being on one side of the fence or the other. For me if I don't like a player then I will not beat around the bush I'll flat out say it.

If I like a player that does not mean I have to hang on his jock strap and make excuses for him when I feel he was in the wrong or when he has made a bad play within a game or had a bad season.

In this case I like Roy I was glad we drafted him and glad he is still here but in this instance I think Roy is wrong and should be at these OTA as I think every player under contract should be there.

Nothing wrong with that stance, but again if the vacation was planned long before the OTAs were scheduled, how is he supposed to get around that? Remember this is a family thing, so I could see this conflict being related to his family work schedule.

And if it was pre-approved by Wade, then I don't see why we (joe fan) should take a hard core stance about it. Especially when I think he'll probably make up the missed workouts later.

One this isn't last year, where we were trying to implment a new offensive and defensive system.

Two, just because he hasn't had to work doesn't mean his family didn't either, vacation isn't about oh im free, lets go on cruise, it takes planning something he obviously did and it just so happen the cowboys scheduled there OTA's at the same time

Three roy being at these OTA's is not going to be the difference between winning a playoff game or not, Last i checked everybody was at the OTA's last year and we still had the same result, a first game exit.

This is May, and this is overblown by a large proportion. He wants to go on vacation, let him, as long as he is here by TC and in shape then there is nothing to complain about.

but thats our point, each year he isnt in true football shape, last year, he took a diet chrash course to get in shape before he showed up at training camp,

thats what were saying, do what the other players do roy, you shoulld be a leader, work out and study like jason witten, romo, T O, and newman,

be the best tip top shape you can be, then let the chips fall where they may

And where has he not?

All reports we've heard is how he's lost weight, and and been to the workout facility before even the early birds get there.

So again, he's been working out, he's been losing weight, and because of something he scheduled months ago, he gets blasted?

Makes no sense to me

With the money he is making he should have no problem bumping his vacations and as I said player and fans both know that after the draft there will be a series of mini camps and OTA so this is not coming as some unexpected event they do it every year.

Yes Wade approved it but then Wade nor the Cowboys have no choice because by league rules these are so called voluntary there is not much that can say.

Am I going to hold this against Roy for here on out? No but I do think that if these workouts were meaningless then coaches would not bother having them and every effort should be made to attend.

It's not that there meaningless, but again, This is not the only week he's gonna be able to practice. He's not missing TC, it may not be meaningless, but it's not important.
