Just say "no" to Rashan Evans

I don't care how productive he was at Alabama. Fact is, he played behind 1st and 2nd round DL, so he rarely had to get off blocks and could run to the ball and blitz freely. Most alarmingly, he did not run the 40 at the combine AND refused to run it at his pro day (pissing off coaches and scouts who made the trip just to see him work out). When was the last healthy first rounder that did not run the 40? Combine that with pedestrian other combine athleticism numbers (30" high jump and 9'8" long jump), and this is a guy I would not even consider in the first round... By comparison, LVE was 97th percentile SPARQ. Not saying LVE should be the pick at 19, but I could live with it. Evans at 19 would be a complete force and nowhere near the BPA.

I like Evans, just not at 19.

I'd be open to him in a trade down or as a 2nd rounder, but he's not as good or polished as his former BAma buddies.

Mosley and Foster were way better.

I'm a LVE fan, but Evans might be the best "get off blocks" LB in the draft. He plays assignment sound football and is a violent player with good instincts. Not running the 40 was disappointing, but nobody was under the illusion he was fast. Like Josey Jewel though seeing and reacting quickly will trump speed every time at his position. I think he's one of the safest picks in this draft and a true downhill thumper.

Question for those who think Evans is only a thumper, who will be the other nickel LB next to Lee? You'd be drafting a Jaylon Smith clone without the nerve injury. Give me the guy that has a year of good tape, can cover and can grow next to Lee, and play 3 downs.

Maybe so, but not at 19

According to my source, he is high on our draft board so prepare to be disappointed

REUBEN FOSTER CHARGED WITH FELONY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Reuben Foster, a professional football player, was charged today with felony domestic violence against his live-in girlfriend. Foster, 24, physically attacked the 28-year-old woman during a February argument at their Los Gatos home, leaving her bruised and with a ruptured ear drum. Foster is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12 in Department 44 of the Hall of Justice in San Jose. The defendant faces charges of domestic violence with an allegation that he inflicted great bodily injury, forcefully attempting to prevent a victim from reporting a crime, and possession of an assault weapon – all felonies. He is also charged with misdemeanor possession of large capacity weapon magazine. If convicted, he faces more than 11 years in prison. Prosecutor Kevin Smith said: “Our focus is on holding accountable those who hurt their intimate partners. Our Office handles between four and five thousand domestic violence cases each year. We only hope that this case illuminates the tragic regularity of the rest.” On February 11, the victim flagged down a stranger’s car driving on Shannon Road to call 911. She called police. The victim told responding sheriff’s deputies and Los Gatos police that Foster dragged her by her hair, physically threw her out of the house, and punched her in the head 8 to 10 times. The victim went to a local hospital, where she was treated for her injuries, and released. During their search of Foster’s home, officers found the weapon – a Sig Sauer 516 – along with its large capacity magazine – both of which are illegal to possess in California.

The fact Foster is a dipwad doesn't disprove the point being made. The idea that Bama LBers are overrated because they play behind gret Bama DLs is largely dumb.

Foster has done nothing and is about to go to jail for 11 years. I'll give you Mosley, but he was a far better prospect than Evans: he ran a 4.65 40, 35" vert, 7.3 3 cone.

Just admit you overstated your case and move on.

The idea that Bama LBs only succeed because they play behind great DLs is silly. It just is.

Again, I'll give you Mosely. And I really don't know about Foster from limited on-field sample. Now we may never know about him. But the fact that Bama can recruit best players in the country, yet we can only point to 3 first round LBs in past 8 years (Foster, Mosely, Hightower in 2012), tends to prove my point. Stand by what I said.
