why the hell would we take out Akin Ayodele for Hoyt? Ayodele has been playing very well, there is no reason so take him out. Plus we still have Burnett backing up. Hoyt is fine were he is at now.

The Boys may have needed an upgrade at fullback, but if Hoyte showed BP enough at LB, I'd like to think he would have remained playing defense.

As for playing along side James, Akin Ayodele had his best game Sunday are was arguably the best defender on the team Sunday, definetely one of the best.

He is/was a linebacker. Apparently, not as ggod of one as Ayodele and Carpenter. If he can keep playing special teams and f-back as well as he has thus far, I'm down with a permanent change...

Agree Akin had his best game this past Sun but still think we need a backer to make a tackle in the backfield from time to time. We need someone who absolutely blows up people and right now I just don't see it except from Roy.

Parcells always says we need more catalytic players on defense...Hoyt has it.
If he can blow up people at a brand new position he should be able to do the same at a position he knows in his sleep.

So basically what you're saying is...you want to take a player whom isn't as good as two or three others at LB and start him because he "blows people up." At the same time, take away a player from the f-back postition, a primary blocking position in which we lack depth and any aggressiveness at.

No thanks. Until he proves he can legitimately beat out any of our inside LB's, lets keep him at a position where he's made headlines in a matter of only two weeks. IMO.

from another board

OLIVER'S OFFENSE: Oliver Hoyte made a quick transition from linebacker to fullback. He was in on 42 offensive plays last week, primarily as a blocking back.

"I haven't been in the linebacker (meeting) room in two weeks now," said Hoyte, an undrafted rookie from North Carolina State.

The Cowboys approached Hoyte for the first time last month about the possibility of playing fullback. It was something he hadn't done since high school, though he was recruited by some colleges as a fullback instead of a defender.

"I just want to play. I love the game. The game is fun, blocking or tackling," Hoyte said. "Fullbacks have to be aggressive. Linebackers have to be aggressive. I'm an aggressive person on the field."

Hoyte didn't have any carries against Carolina. His last carry was a 1-yard TD run as a high school senior.

Coach Bill Parcells said Hoyte is much more physical than Lousaka Polite, the fullback who was released by the Cowboys last week.

Polite was brought back Thursday because of a bruised arm Hoyte sustained in the game. The Cowboys cut Keylon Kincaide, who had been re-signed only the day before.

"I don't think it's anything serious, but he has a little arm problem," Parcells said. "I didn't think anything of it because the trainers said he'd be OK. And then he went out to practice and he was a little less than perfect. But he was real good today."

Parcells said Polite was brought back as a precaution for this week.

I'm REALLY glad that Hoyte caught on somewhere, even if its at FB. I really liked him at LB and didn't want to let him get away.
He still may end up being a fine ILB also...

Shows how guys really need to focus on ST play. Hoyte doesn't make a roster anywhere this year without his ST play. When asked about whether Hoyte would be cut back in August bill said something like "are you kidding? everyone has film on him playing ST."

Anyone that knows me knows how important football is to me," he said in a recent interview. "I have so much desire, so much hunger."

While top talents Mario Williams and Manny Lawson were attacking quarterbacks on the defensive line for N.C. State in 2005, Hoyte was there to punish the running backs. The three-year starter had 79 tackles as a senior for the Wolfpack after getting 93 as a junior. An unheralded member of the flashy Wolfpack defense, Hoyte was never recognized as an all-ACC player (first-, second- or third teams) despite his consistent production, mostly because he came off the field in passing situations for a talented defense.

"Go back and look at big plays per play," Hoyte suggested. "The number of plays you have vs. the big plays you make, the ratio - I was probably the best on the team. But I didn’t play every down, that’s why my numbers were probably down a little bit."

At 6-2½ and 245, with great instincts, he’s big enough and smart enough to play in the NFL – but his 5.01 time in the 40 is a major cause for concern. He was the slowest of the 37 linebackers at the combine.

"I know I didn’t run as well as I know I can, but eveything else was pretty good. I excelled in the football drills ... that’s what I am, I’m a football player."

Hoyte still enjoyed the experience of the combine, because it was a chance to impress coaches - if not with his blazing speed, with his passion for the game.

"I had a whole heap of meetings - I think I talked to every team," he said. "And any time I sit down to talk about football with a coach, Xs and Os, they walk away impressed. Because I’m a student of the game. I just wanted to show people I had nothing to hide, I was just a good football player. And I ‘m in the best shape of my life right now.

He was brought in for pre-draft meetings with New England and Cincinnati, as well as a trip to visit the Bucs in his hometown of Tampa (he went to high school with Florida State DT Brodrick Bunkley).

Hoyte will likely be a late second-day pick that’ll have to make his initial mark on the NFL on special teams – which wouldn’t be so bad.

"I love special teams," Hoyte said. "I played special teams especially much my freshman year, I was on every single one. One night, I think it was East Tennessee State, on the kickoff, I hit a guy so hard he went to the wrong sideline. And I said, OK, college is just like high school."

But the pros aren’t just like college - which is why Hoyte plans to work his way toward a dream.

"When I go into camp, I plan on making on making an impact on special teams AND defense," Hoyte said. "That’s how I’m looking at it. I’m going to continue working on my straight-line speed the rest of my career. Some people are born with it, some are not.

"But when I see the football, I’m going for it."

Our LB is still a problem, Ayodele is mediorce at best and Carpenter was another wasted Parcells day one draft pick....add to that our woes at FS and it's deja vu all over again.

Leave Hoyte there and let him continue blowing up linebackers on offense. He's a special teams guru, and if you need a 3rd string ILB, there he is. He's an all purpose player, and that's gold on a Bill Parcells team.

Honestly... I dont even want to think about moving him.... look what he is doing... opening holes for our RB's... we really have had that since Moose.

I am good with his NEW job title, description.

FB and LB are not the same position. They require a similar mentality, but the skills are different. At FB he doesn't have to chase down, fight through blocks and tackle people - the people he blocks are coming to him because he is in between them and the ball carrier.

In other words, being a good FB doesn't automatically translate into being a good LB, even for someone more experienced at LB.
