Was it drugs or PEDs? My guess would be drugs. Too bad. Phenomenal talent. Maybe the best college receiver I've ever seen. Production wise.

Per PFT

“All of us who are a part of the Jaguars family care very deeply about Justin and his well-being,” Jaguars G.M. Dave Caldwell said in a team-issued release. “That said, he must be held accountable and accept the consequences announced today by the NFL. His suspension will provide him the opportunity to receive the attention and professional treatment necessary to overcome his challenges, and we will support him during this time. The Jacksonville Jaguars will evaluate Justin’s status once he has successfully met the criteria to be considered for reinstatement to the league.”

The eight-game suspension strongly suggests, based on the language of the substance-abuse policy, that the penalty was the result of a negotiation between the NFL and the NFLPA.

Blackmon, as we understand it, was in Stage 3 of the league’s substance-abuse program. Violation of the policy while in Stage Three ordinarily results in a banishment with the ability to re-apply after a calendar year. The union and/or Blackmon’s representatives apparently persuaded the league to trim the return date in half.

Cue up Warren Moon

Seriously, Blackmon obviously needs help. He's wasting an opportunity many athletes dream of...

Blackmon has been suspended indefinitely without pay for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, the Jaguars' official site reports.

Spin:
Blackmon, whose suspension begins immediately, will be eligible to apply for reinstatement before the start of the 2014 season. His absence figures to free up looks in the Jags' offense for the likes of Mike Brown, Ace Sanders and Stephen Burton.

Well say what you want about Dez at least he doesn't have a substance abuse issue.

With that being said obviously Justin suffers from something(s) from his childhood that's led him down this path to self medicate. Hopefully he gets help and not the help that tells him his addiction is down the hall, at the corner, at work etc... He needs to have something's uncovered with the right type of therapy to help him. Good luck Justin. Believe in yourself and know that it's one day at a time and that everyone is pulling for you young man

Total cost to Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon for his four-game and eight-game suspensions in 2013: $3.19 million.

ProFootballTalk ‏@ProFootballTalk 1m
Justin Blackmon's potential losses are actually much more than the $3.19 million initially mentioned -- worst-case is $10.282 million.
The only good news for Blackmon is that partial deferral of his signing bonus reduces his initial loss from $3.19 million to $2.296 million.

Dez has some baggage but nothing close to the issues of Blackman.

If the Cowboys can ever win a SB Dez could end up in the Hall. That said Dez still has growing to do both on and off the
field. Justin Blackman now has to go the Chris Carter route.

I just commented on it in a different thread.

Warren Moon is an idiot. His comparison was completely off in more ways than one. Blackmon was never the special talent that Bryant was and obviously Dez seems to have handled the pros better than his Ok state counterpart.

But this news about Blackmon doesn't vindicate Dez. It's just another sad headline about a guy pissing away his talents. Hopefully he can get his head on straight, make an impact on the game and more importantly, turn his life around for the better.

I might reach for the bottle/horse tranquilizers too if I was on the Jaguars...

But seriously, I wish him the best. The guy obviously has talent and it's unfortunate to see him throwing it all away.
