Bad idea. We'll get a couple more kicks made in parts of the field where we should be going for it on fourth down. And we'll eliminate the chance to score from long range,

What you are saying is not backed up by facts.

First, we may have eliminated the chance to kick from 60+ yards, but Forbath can hit from 50-55 yards. He's 61% in his career from over 50 yards. And, by the way, Maher is only hitting 50% from beyond 50 yards this year.

Second, its false to act as if every kick we attempt from short to intermediate distance is in a situation where we should be going for it on 4th down anyway. EVERY team kicks most of their FGS in the 20-50 yard range, so lets not fabricate an argument as if that's a Cowboy thing. There might be a very rare exception, but overwhelming the FGs we attempt from less than 50 yards are ones every team would kick.

Another thing is that because Maher is only 50% from over 50 yards this year, a person could argue that the long attempts have hurt us more than helped us because after every miss the opponent gets to start a possession with great field position.

But on top of that, Maher is only 20% from 40-49 yards. Those are attempts that have to be made consistently. A good kicker should hit 80% of those. The reality is, wins and losses are decided overwhelmingly more on whether teams can execute the plays they should execute and not on whether the team can put the rare hail mary out of their backside.

So you are saying. Championship.

I like Forbath, but I liked Maher too.

Honestly, we need to get a dedicated kicking coach. Remember when we went a decade with no one in particular at kicker, but still did well in the kicking game? Yeah, we had a dedicated kicking coach.
