I think Carpenter has a good chance to fall into the second. Those nagging injury problems are going to scare some teams.

a name we continue to forget is ...Khalen Thorton.
I think he turns into at least a rotation player for us. Hidden gem already on our roster.

As for Carpenter vs Parham....I don't care, I'd just like to be able to get either in the second round and use our first on Santonio Holmes.

Parham is big and quick, a durable high character guy and was very productive in college, but he's not an extremely athletic guy. He was a GREAT ILB at Virginia, and I think he'll play inside in the pros. Carpenter is a big-time athlete, the kind of playmaker you take in the first round. I think Kai may be there for us at #50. If he is, I wouldn't mind seeing both of these guys in Dallas.

Other linebackers I like:
Manny Lawson - NC State
Elvis Dumervil - Louisville
Jason Hunter - Appalachian State

I put a lot into what someone says when they're a VA fan and they're saying the OH guy is the better player.

I probably misworded that, but my point is it's good to see someone view things w/o bias.

And I agree, I'd love to see both in Dallas. I think Carpenter can play ILB or OLB so him at OLB and Parham at ILB would be ok with me. :D

Carpenter?

Parham?

Tough choice....

I don't think we can go wrong with either.

As far as BP:

Well, Groh may have a lot of great things to say about Parham, but Carpenter is the son of a former player (Rob Carpenter).

So, who knows what BP will do?

I'll admit I prefer Carpenter, but this team could definitely do worse than Parham.

My favorite scenario would be a team early in 2 falling in love with Cutler or someone and trading up for their second and a 2007 #1. Use those two seconds on some combination of ILB/OLB and OT. I wouldn't mind seeing two starting quality linebackers added.

Interesting that Parham rushed the passer in the nickel. Also one of the things I like about Carpenter. If the team gets rid of Ellis, they'll need an edge rusher opposite Ware in the nickel.

Jay Ratliff

I see Ratliff taking Glover's role as an interior rusher in the nickel.

The team has a lot of options there. Ratliff, Canty, Spears.

I actually think BP has plans for Thomas Johnson being the interior rusher in the nickel, that kid has a burst and nice strength to take on double-teams

Its early, but I think his stock is similar to Kevin Burnett ... late 1st - mid 2nd. He was told by his NFL advisors that he was going to be a Day 1 pick. A lot of people think he'll be 2nd round, but he could also see his stock rise because he's a bit of a physical phenom (he was benching over 400 lbs. by the time he was in high school). But its a deep year for linebackers.

The thing about Carpenter is he has rare size/speed numbers. 250+ and a reported 4.52 in the 40 (faster than some WRs). What is Parham's 40?

Parham is 255 the same size, and I believe his speed numbers are pretty similar to that.

Actually, the source I saw (TSN, The War Room) had Parham's weight as 247 and did not report a 40 speed. The same source didn't have anyone with a size/speed number in the category of Carpenter other than a tight end, Vernon Davis of Maryland (253, 4.41).

I'll note that the weights I've seen change markedly from source to source. One source says Carpenter is 252, another says he is 240. It'll be good to get numbers from the combine.

Carpenter's play really reminds me of Vrabel. Which is a very good thing,

Thanks JPM.....

After looking at the profile(I dont know that I recall seeing him play in a game) I would have to say that I would rather have Bobby Carpenter.. Mostly out of my knowledge of all that he did with the Buckeyes....

I've heard from more than one source that Bobby Carpenter is perhaps a little underrated from playing next to A J Hawk. But if that 250 size and 4.5ish speed holds up, he'd be a fantastic bookend for Ware.

I'm not sure why this profile 1) lists Kai as an OLB, 2) says he can't play the position, and 3) says he's better suited to play inside, where he's played for the past three years anyway. I agree that he's better inside than out and that coverage isn't his forte, but insinuating that he's a weak blitzer is innacurate. He's no Lawrence Taylor, but he did lhave 8.5 sacks.

As I've said, he's not extremely athletic, but he's a big, quick, hard-hitting guy with tremendous character and high productivity playing the strong side in Groh's 3-4. I see him as a bigger, faster Dat Nuygen, and that's a pretty darn good ILB in my eyes.

Would rather take Kai Parham in the 2nd to play Dat's vacated spot. Don't want to waste a first to get Carpenter when we need a tackle in the worst kind of way.

I would love to see us get a stud LT myself, but the Cowboys in general, and BP in particular, just don't draft OL in the first round. I think we've taken one in the last 25 years. Even LA wasn't taken until the top of the 2nd.
