Kaiir Elam looking to turn the corner in his career

When I look at needs I always assume that one player from each squad will end up on the injured list.

Therefore, I figure the Cowboys will need four good CBs. I do not include Diggs in any calculations, he is a question mark for the team's future.

So Elam becomes the 4th CB along with Bland, Carson, and Elam.

I actually love our pre-draft off-season moves.

Murray, Sanborn, Thomas, Jones and Elam, Williams all good adds. Sanders could turn out too. Same for Campbell.

I’m rooting for Elam.

That said, teams just don’t give up on 1st round picks this early unless there’s a serious lack of confidence in the player and their ability to develop.
The Bills gave up on him.

The Cowboys are former 1st rounders safety net.

I thought it might be PFF. I found 2024 but don’t have access to ‘23 or ‘22.

Is your 1st number for ‘23 and are you able to see ‘22?

AI said ‘23 was 96.2 but they don’t specifically state it is PFF, though they do for ‘24 & ‘22. I know he went on IR in ‘23 and only got snaps in 2 games, so maybe it wasn’t enough snaps for PFF to rank.

For ‘22, Blogging The Boys said it was 83.6 while AI said it was 98.9.
118 for 2024
109 for 2023
99 for 2022

Pro Football Reference which also tracks that data has him

105
101
96

Not sure what number BTB is referencing but it apears way off. PFR is typically more forgiving with coverage stats than PFF, and BTB is way off the mark on theres

I doubt it's out of the question for a young DB to be nervous about playing in a big game. There's any number of things that could have limited his play. We'll soon see how he fares in TC and games thereafter. It wouldn't be the first time a youngster has a bad game. It occurs often in the NFL.

I’m not sure who BTB used for their number. It was in the “Elam Can Be Sneaky Good” article:
“As a rookie, Elam’s play was inconsistent, which is about what you expect from a rookie cornerback. He finished the year with a 71.7% completion rate allowed, giving up two touchdowns but also picking off three passes. His passer rating allowed of 83.6 was only slightly behind veteran starters Tre’Davious White and Dane Jackson and was sixth-best among rookie corners.”

I think PFF has two ratings, regular and adjusted where they remove off-target throws and drops.

This is another underrated trade by Dallas. That fans will come to appreciate. I know the thing is, to get likes, is to rag on the move.
But I like it. The get a 1st round player, for a low draft pick, but also picked up a low draft pick.
The Scouts and Staff are doing their homework and I am actually a little excited about who has been brought into the group. The secondary should be able to shut things down deep through most games.

Not all of us even think about getting "Likes".....its the furthest thing from my mind

But obviously some people keep it front and center
For sure, put in a plug of 'baca and grab a moonshine bottle...you bet. AFTER chewing glass!

I’m wondering how the change to Eberflus’ defense might affect the current cornerbacks, and their current and future contracts.
Group evolutions. Jerry keeps it real overall.

He flashed in buffalo but had ups and downs. He completely fell apart in the AFC championship for them and basically singlehandedly cost them a trip to the super bowl.

So I'm interested in his talent and think he can be decent depth but I think revel will be cb1 soon. Elam will need to rebuild his confidence here.

Fun off season games this season.

They never forgave him ..........landed him a permanent seat in the coach's doghouse.

I probably have higher expectations for Elam than most. Cowboys were lucky to get him. Good CB that can really play in this league. VERY underrated get for them who will fill an important role.
Out of curiosity what role is it are you predicting he will fill in Dallas?

Could be interesting. But to me if Diggs comes back and has a goid year I’d trade him and extend bland.

I'm hoping the Cowboys bring back Gilly as insurance, but also to mentor the CB room.

I also think Jerry gonna choose Bland over Diggs, partially due to the apparent emergence of Elam.

Here's my prediction for the 2025 CB room:

Diggs
Bland
Elam
Gilly
Revel
Mukuamu
Hall

Diggs will play this year, while Revel gets healthier and gains experience. But Diggs will be a post June 1 cut next year so that Bland can get his big payday.

Top 3 CBs for the Cowboys next season:

Bland
Elam
Revel

I think Elam is my new pet cat. If he can guard Cheetah and Waddle, on September 4th, he'll be able to handle DaVontae Smith.

Extended vid of Elam vs Cheetah and Waddle:

He's shown he can do it. Now comes time for consistency. Fingers crossed.
