The big story is Dak obviously, you can’t bring out anointing oil after one preseason game – but what isn’t to like? He made all the throws, played with poise, showed pocket presence and mobility. He moved the team down the field and scored consistently and showed what is probably the best thing you can say about a rookie QB:

He didn’t look like a rookie.

Too early to draw definitive conclusions but even as a rookie he looked better than the hasbeen veterans we would have to overpay to bring in.

I still like Showers and see him on the 53, I made the comparison to a good backup like Tony Banks before. Adbutcher said Dak reminded him of Steve McNair, which is prescient coming before this game.

Swaim and WR Andy Jones dropped passes but I give them a break because its their first real NFL game. I think the WR competition goes down to the last minute before they decide who makes the roster.

I like Nzeocha but he still has a long way to go. That said, he could definitely push Gachkar off the roster and fill the same role as a ST demon who backs up the Mike spot.

I think the young DL looked fine but I consider Ryan Russell the backup LDE and not a starter. After this game I could really see them moving DLaw to RDE permanently with Mayowa backing him, with Irving starting at LDE.

Goodbye JJ Wilcox, The Landry Rule still stands. I definitely think Frazier takes his spot.

Olatoye looked very good in limited reps, I have to think he is the 4th CB. Jerimiah McKinnon looks good IMO, he didn’t make a lot of plays but I bet he grades out well.
I gave you a like... and not entirely because of the super clever "Kaiser Roll" in the title.

How about him locking onto WRs? I'm putting money on it right now he throws a couple picks based off what he put on film tonight...Teams are gonna see...he doesn't look off...and safeties are gonna jump his down field throws. Tell you right now...It's coming. And It's coming in bunches.

People on the Dak train are in for a rude awakening......

You can say that about half the starters in the league right now. First pre-season game for him and you are throwing him under the bus after that performance. I think there are some tough times ahead because that's the norm for any rookie QB, but lets be a tad positive on the lad. That was a very nice game for his first under the bright lights.

Brown looked the best of the UDFA pool of WRs but twice ran short of the sticks on 3rd down. Jones was unimpressive and it seems every camp we hear about these type of guys and they just never deliver. I was looking for an upgrade to Street but I suspect his roster spot is safe.

Your post is utterly ridiculous. Give an example. After Moore is given an injury settlement will you follow him?

So, your calling it right now...a rookie QB, throwing picks? Way to step out on that ledge floaty!

Well, ok then, I think I'll go watch moss grow while we wait for Kellen's HOF speech. Man, the Rocky Mountains, covered in moss, who would have ever thought that would happen.

I live in Boise and, like you, am a big Kellen Moore fan. But the arm strength, running ability, and accurate downfield throws that Dak showed last night is more than Moore has shown in 3 years. I think Dak has a learning curve for sure, and is not close to Moore's football knowledge yet, but what we saw last night is a QB with some special abilities playing in his first ever NFL game. Now, I want to see him do it more under center and with dropbacks (all but the Brice Butler completion were from the shotgun or on rollouts). But Dak's ceiling is far above Moore's IMO and his floor this year might not be much lower.

In a perfect world, we put Showers back on PS (I think he's still eligible). Carry Dak as #2 QB and hope Romo stays healthy thru Sept and Oct. In early November Moore's leg will be healed. Then Moore resumes as #2 for the playoff run and Dak is #3. Next year, we say goodbye to Moore and Dak is our #2.

They could also find a guy at cuts to 53. Last year they could have picked up Austin Davis and Cassell at that time.

Yes, that could be a plan as well to hold down the fort until Moore is healthy. Or if they guy that pick up is better, we just IR Moore. I expect the following guys to be available:

Matt Barkley (AZ)
Austin Davis (CLE)
Aaron Murray & Tyler Bray (KC)
Geno Smith (NYJ) (or Bryce Petty, but I bet it's Geno because they don't want the distraction of him pouting)
and, Michael Vick and Tarvaris Jackson are still on the street (his DV charges were dropped)

That would be the perfect plan IMO, if they could carry Showers on the PS one more year it would be perfect. He has the physical tools and could certainly develop given time.

If they give most of the reps to Dak going forward it will help him prepare for the #2 role and help hide Showers from other teams that might want to put him on their 53. Also I don't see any of the waiver cuts (other than McCown) being a better #2 than Dak given yesterday's performance.

Did not show up on the stat sheet much except for his TD reception from a perfect pass from Prescott, but Williams played good as well. Had some nice blocks in the run game.
