guys who take college jobs are generally not young, white, hot, or NFL coordinators

This Garrett lovefest takes the final step across the line...

Tech is a winner, if the BCS were abolished they'd wreck shop in a playoff system with that spread offense.

Guess who's name has surfaced out of Westwood as a person of interest? Jason Garrett, tough spot here for me as a Bruin nothing more would I love then having our guys get in gear to kick USuC to the curb year after year like we used to. However I do not want it to come at the expense of my Cowboys! I do not think this will go anywhere as there is no way that UCLA can get into a bidding war with Jerry Jones anyway.
I have known Dorrell was going to be fired for a while. The AD at UCLA has a cousin living here in Tucson. Until he retired a few weeks ago he worked at the same company where I work. The day before UCLA played the Wildcats here Ron told us his cousin had told him Dorrell was done.

The Garrett news is eye raising. They should hire Mike Stoops away from UCLA and let my Wildcats have Garrett until the Head job here opens. Better the college game than in the NFL.

I don't think Garrett is going anywhere. This is the job he wants and will have. His Dad scouted here. He played and coached here, his brother did too. He is a Dallas Cowboy.

I can't see Garrett going to a college team when he is likely to have a number of choices in the pro ranks.

I am also a big UCLA fan and am glad to see Dorrell getting the boot but it won't be Garrett taking his place.

like others have said, highly doubtful Garrett goes to UCLA...I've said numerous times already I dont think he is leaving Dallas for another job at all, as he will be the HC here in another yr or two tops

I dont know how much Aikman stays active in the UCLA community, but if Norv is run by San Diego this yr I wouldnt be surprised if he pushes behind the scenes there for a chance at the UCLA job...Norv has college experience in LA, having been an asst at USC for John Robinson

I've always liked UCLA, but the fact is its not a premier job and is kinda a 2nd tier position now...nobody of note is going to be running over there and beating down the door for a chance to take it...your most likely going to see another Karl Dorrell type end up with the job

You must be an Aggie that is bitter about what he's done to you guys ever since you hired Franchione over him.
Are you serious? Did A&M really hire Franchione instead of Mike Leach???...

A big N O on this. Lumpy was never considered for the A&M job before they hired Fran.At the time the big money alumni wanted a coach from a big time program hence Fran from Alabama.

Now on J.G. I don't see Jerry letting him get away because Wade isn't a young man anymore. He won't be around forever.

With all respect to Joe there, Mr. Leach was in fact given a preliminary phone interview at the start of the 2003 A&M coaching search.

I read it in the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal last year, I can't find a link in their on-line archive but if you want it bad enough I'm sure you can ask them for it.

Leach is an interesting option for UCLA. He went to Pepperdine Law, so he has at least lived in the LA area.

I was thinking the same thing. It would seem that he is an ideal fit for the Pac 10.

I don't understand why UCLA would not have the same opportunity to build a great program as USC.

It seems to me that the only thing USC has over them is history. I have often thought the same thing about USC when it comes to basketball.

Traditionally UCLA has pinched pennies on their football program. Their coaches were the lowest paid in the Pac-10. That has changed in the recent years and with the new coaching hire the AD has said that money will not be an issue for the right guy. All this leads up to a new time for Bruin football.
