Whether I am old or not does not change the fact that her as well a vast majority of what is popular music wise currently stinks to high heaven. Artistic integrity as well as actual musical talent has been thrown out the window in favor of the almighty dollar and pushing nonsense like this on the less than smart consumers that lap it up.

This isn't anything new. A lot of acts with little to no talent have always been pushed by music companies. Look at all the pop acts of the 50s and 60s that were cheap knock offs of the talented artists. Consumers lapped that up as well.

So many of you would rather see geriatric singers who last had a number one hit in 1969 than recent music. Next year the singer will be Ariana Grande or Pitbull.

Pitbull will never be the top bill at the SB; however, he could be one of the secondary acts. Could even happen this SB. I could see him coming out to do one song along with Perry.

You are still doing the agism thing. Boomers seem to lack introspection. There were awful bands like the Monkeys and a ton of inane nonsense like the monster mash and that type of 'formula' driven music. I can wave my hands at music I don't like from the 60's and 70's just like you can with today. You are just an old hipster.

And the greedy producer and manager ruining music was cliche back then too.

I wasn't aware that hipsters could be old?
Did you mean "old hippy" perhaps?
In any case your are incorrect.......

And yes there were plenty of disposable acts back in the day from the Monkees to David Cassidy and everything in between. These days it seems there is an overabundance of acts that have zero musical talent but can however have someone teach them the latest dance moves and wear next to no clothing. Add a little pro tools and auto tune to the mix and you have the next flavor of the week.

Hipsters are just those that pretend that they are 'hip' while everyone else's opinion and preference is lesser.

I also doubt you are versed in scales, modes, tonics, etc to be able to evaluate musical talent beyond enjoying what you hear.

Well I will admit I am not as versed in scales, modes and tonics as well as Katy Perry and the like but hey who knows one day if I continue to study hard and take my Flintstones vitamins I may get to the head of the class.
In all seriousness though I have been playing the guitar for over 25 years and have a very good ear for what is legit and what is not.

And stop with the thinly veiled insults, they are so beneath a Henry Rollins fan............

Bravo you know what you like and set yourself above those that like something different. You get a cookie for your super duper opinion, hipster.

In all the hubbub I didn't get your address to mail you a copy of KP's latest " beats".
I will be sure to include some gluten free almond milk as well as a vaporless cigg to make your listening experience more enjoyable.

Yes, of course there was ridiculous teeny bopper tripe back in the 60's and 70's. But there are also a lot of timeless groups that an awful lot of people (from ALL generations) are still listening to today.

Who are today's groups that people will still be listening to 50 years from now? You think Katy Perry will still be releasing anthologies in 2064?

Daft Punks first song came out in 1995 and their track One More Time popular at new years, all you need to transcend time is have a song attached to an event. Queen's we are the champions is a good example of that. Also Daft Punk constantly change their sound, they we popular over here before Kayne stole one of their songs. They will most likely be around for another decade, anybody with a 30 music career will be remembered.

I can just hear a radio station 20 years from now playing all the greats.

Floyd
Zep
The Beatles
Daft Punk
Katy Perry
Nah......who am I kidding, DP will up and vanish like the proverbial fart in the wind and be not even a footnote in musical history.
Ditto for Perry except maybe a career in porn.

There are a ton of people that like them and that has been the case for quite some time. Were talking about people of the future; I'm tepid on them myself bit this is not about me. It's pretty obvious you guys are out of touch as it pertains to the preferences of the younger generation. Whole lot of hipsters going on.

Then there are the other acts i listed which you guys ignore and i haven't scratched the surface of hip hop.

No one knows the future. I'm in touch with that.
As for today's music, with the internet and youtube, any band can get heard. No matter how small a fanbase.
