I have read that the bonus Davis recieves this year is a roster bonus...anyone know when the bonus comes due?

Also, I heard there is some playing time requirement for being part of the base defense...anyone know exactly what it is?

Any other details would be appreciated also.

Sorry if something along these lines has already been posted.

I don't have any contract details, but I do have a big question - why? Davis is not a FS - he's more like a poor man's RW. Yes Davis is a great ST player, but I think Boiman could have more than made-up for Davis' absence. the Cowboys need a true ball-hawk at FS and by signing Davis it leads me to belive they think a combination of Davis/Beri. can do the job. Davis proved last year he is lost when the ball's in the air and Beri. is not a proven commodity by any stretch.

Hopefully Daivs' sigining does not preclude the Cowboys from looking at FS in the draft.

and then our ST would be exactly where they were last year -- mediocre - this gets two very good ST guys on the field

I think the two have nothing to do with each other.

And so it appears Davis will get his wish. While the Cowboys have made the decision to match the deal, the process might take through the weekend before it becomes official. The Cowboys are challenging some of the language in the contract, but even if the league doesn't agree with their interpretation they still will match the offer.

More likely, it only means that we don't HAVE to draft an immediate starter there. If we didn't match Davis' offer and we don't like what's left in free agency, we'd almost be forced to draft a free safety in the first or second round and throw him into the starting lineup. Now, if there are better players at other positions available when we pick, we don't HAVE to bypass them and reach for a free safety. We can pick a free safety in the middle of the draft and let him compete with Davis for the starting job. That wouldn't be an ideal situation at free safety, but it would be the smart thing to do and would mean we'd have better players at other positions.

Adam,

Do you have the specifics on the contract? I thought I read that there was wording in that KD would have to receive a certain percentage of starting snaps on defense?
