Kellen Moore is horrible

...Well JG is always telling his players something like..."It doesn't matter where you come from!"..."It doesn't matter who you are, and how you got here!"
..."You will get the chance to compete,"..".It's up to you what you do with the opportunity that you.ve been given!"..."Make the best of it!"
I'll say, though Rush still has a way to go, he has taken advantage of his opportunity...I sure hope the coaches and JJ are taking notice.
I believe Moore is not eligible for the PS?!...right!?...pity!...:star:

That said, throw out everything he has done previous to now and just base your opinion on what you have seen in 2 games. .

But that is exactly it. I don't base anything on the first two preseason games.

Then we are having two different conversations. This conversation is clearly in response to the first two games. You can preach patience, but to what end? No one here is deciding Kellen's fate. We are merely pointing out that what we have seen so far suggest the Cowboys don't have a viable backup. I'd hesitate to name Cooper that because he's a rookie. But of the two, he has by far looked more promising. Do you disagree with that sentiment?

I agree Cooper has looked far more promising and I've said that he has earned a roster spot.

I do consider Moore to be a "viable backup" based on the games he played in 2015. That is a low bar, however. I don't think Moore will ever be a starter and I think most NFL backups are mediocre and fit the same bill. That was my point in posting the 2015 games from Cassell, which were similar to Moore. He has game experience in the regular season and that is what I base my opinion on.

I've made that point many times in the past; there are not 32 viable starters in the NFL, if we are being honest, so to expect much from a backup can be asking for alot. But if you put that understanding aside, and simply watch what is unfolding right in front of us as the Cowboys attempt to narrow down their roster from 90 to 53, it is going to be very difficult to carry more than 2 QB's. With that mind, and once again basing your opinion purely on what we have seen in 2 games so far, who would you feel more comfortable keeping?

Granted, when you throw all the other considerations back into the pile, it makes the decision complicated, but my ultimate point is this: If you understand that there are not 32 viable QB's in the league and therefore backups playing are typically a losing proposition, then at this point we are choosing how we would prefer to lose when choosing Moore or Rush.

In that case, my vote is on the guy who clearly has a higher ceiling and that guy is Rush. He may struggle should the worst case scenario become reality but so would Moore. As a QB mind, Kellen might be a genius, but that noodle arm teamed with his diminutive size limits the types of passes he can make. If he is such a great mind to have in the classroom and holding a clipboard on the sideline then cut him and offer him a coaching job, because I honestly cannot for the life of me see any other team giving him another chance.

I agree with all of that, but IMO you have to keep three QBs at this point. Rush has earned a spot but I think its exceptionally rare for a rookie QB who isn't a top five pick to be able to play in the NFL in their first year. Even for those top five picks, it will often set them back to be thrown into the fire. Its the exception and not the rule for a rookie QB like Troy Aikman to be able to hold his own.

Dak Prescott has spoiled us because he is probably the first guy in NFL history to come in a true rookie and not only break even, but excell at it. I'm sure there are other examples but I can't think of one.

So if Dak goes down, we are screwed. All teams playing their backup are. But IMO Moore can at least drive the bus, which is what he did in 2015 on a horrible team. His floor and his ceiling are about four inches apart, but he can hold the fort in an emergency.

Rush is the future and should absolutely be kept on the roster and groomed. Also I floated the idea a week ago of making Moore an assistant coach so you can sign him if Dak goes down. But right now I would keep three QBs, even though our roster decisions are going to be the toughest in the last decade.

That is a serious consideration: The concern that if Rush were thrown into the thick of it would it ruin him as a prospect?

Some say it has happened before to quarterbacks; Derek Carr is one example. And I'm sure there are more. There also are several examples of rookies playing well from the word go: Russell Wilson and Big Ben are examples of that. So what then was the difference between what happened with Derek and what happened with Rus and Ben?

The talent the fo put around them. That, in my opinion, makes all the difference in the world and was a huge difference in the ascension of Dak.

So, if worse case scenario Rush had to play I think he'd be alright. The big difference I can point to between Derek Carr's situation and Cooper's without even doing a google search is their perspective offensive lines. Derek was perpetually running for his life in the early days of the Texans franchise; by the end of his career he was shell shocked. Rush will have a full compliment of weapons to dish the ball to and one of the best offensive lines in the game to stand behind while he does it.

At the end of the day, if keeping 3 QB's means saying goodbye to Noah Brown or Rico Gathers or some other bottom of the roster prospect that has proven to be better at his craft than the 3rd QB (who is Moore in my opinion) then I'm not keeping 3 QB's and it is good bye Moore. But that is just my opinion.

Derek Carr is the perfect example of ruining a prospect QB by throwing him to the wolves.

I did one of the roster prediction threads (me and half of North America) and wrote that Rush gets the 53rd spot, Lewis Neal and Marquez White survive on the two spots to fill suspensions and then we cut Andy Jones, Noah Brown, Ivie, Nzeocha, Keith Smith and Blanton.

I think the Smiths (Keith and Rod) are safe; they both are significant contributors on Special Teams and Keith in particular is starting to turn into a fairly polished FB...as FB's go. I'd get over Noah Brown because I suspect there's a really good chance we could get him past waivers.

What you and I agree on, I think, is that Kellen Moore cannot be counted on as a backup beyond 2017 and the only thing saving him is Rush's rookie status...and considering we have 3 more games to evaluate, that may not even save him in the end.

If it were me, though, I 'd roll the dice on Rush anyway, since as I said before, be it Rush or Moore behind center, chances are we lose and I'd take my chances that Rush won't allow the experience to ruin him.

If Kellen Moore is as bad as some people think, how did he throw for 430 yards in his last start?

Against a bad defense, that was more or less in prevent due to a big lead and also had nothing to play for in week 17, you want someone to explain that?

Derek Carr isn't a good example of ruining a QB. David Carr is, And I don't think you can use him as an example for us for one simple reason. We aren't likely to let a QB get sacked 55 times, Carr's average for his first 4 years, in a 16 game season. Honestly, for the era, Carr had a couple of pretty decent seasons in there while he was getting blasted and beaten up.

I can't help but wonder if the rest of the staff can convince Linehan that Moore isn't near as good as he thinks. Good luck with that!
One or two more performances remotely similar to the last one he had and they might very well not be obliged to, methinks. :muttley:

Cooper Rush is outplaying Kellen Moore this preseason and making him look like a rookie. Kellen Moore is obviously not a NFL caliber QB.

Where is Floaty? He said once Romo was out of the picture Kellen would shine then blamed a broken leg for why he didnt. What will Floaty's excuse be now?

First off, I agree with you that's Kellen Moore sucks. He has zero velocity on his throws. Even if he throws it to the right spot he seemingly has to make short throws so DBs can't get the pick 6.

Having said that, why make it personal? It is really that important to throw another board member under the bus. Saying "see, I was right" - I get that. But I'm not sure why it's so important to call people out. It's a much better board with less antagonism.

Derek Carr isn't a good example of ruining a QB. David Carr is,

Mehh, same guy.

My bad, I meant David and I agree with your point. On a related point, Troy Aikman doesnt get enough credit for surviving the beating he took as a rookie.

Brad Johnson's last few years with Dallas was absolutely the worst arm I've ever seen in the NFL. I guess Brooks Bollinger wasn't any better than Brad Johnson's either. Jeez... What in the world was Garrett thinking bringing in those guys as backups back then. Smh

Brad Johnson had very little arm strength at the very end, but quite honestly, Kellen Moore appears to have even less.

I think if Cooper can continue playing as well as he has been or gets even better, then there is at least a chance he can overtake Moore, even though Linehan has puppy dog eyes for Kellen. One bad game though from Cooper and yeah, we'll be for sure stuck with Moore as QB2.

Rush has out played Moore so far. It's a small sample size against scrubs. But it's not even close during that small sample size.

Cooper Rush is the only backup QB Dallas really has on the Roster !!! Those other 2 clowns are only backup QB's in the Farm League.

I agree that so far it looks like you are right. McCown seems to have zero decision making ability and Moore has no ball velocity. I think a middle school cheerleader probably could put more zip on the ball than he has shown in the first two preseason games.

I agree with you.

Would anyone here accept a WR that can't catch? How about a LB that can't tackle or a corner that can't cover? What about a OL that can't block? Why should we accept a QB that can't throw? It's great that he is so smart and they trust him but his arm alone should have been enough to keep him out of the NFL. His arm is just so pathetic and I hope I never have to see him attempt to throw a football in a Cowboy uniform ever again.
