The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to a multi-year contract extension with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, the team announced Saturday.

With his new deal, Moore won't pursue an opportunity to become the next head coach at Boise State - his alma mater. The 32-year-old was viewed as a favorite to lead the Broncos after Auburn hired Bryan Harsin in December.

"We are building something special here in Dallas," Moore said in a statement. "I am thankful to the Jones family and Mike McCarthy for providing me the opportunity to coach these special players. I am excited for us to put it all together and finish the job."

Dallas ranks 12th in total offense and 16th in point per game this season under its young assistant despite losing several key players to injuries.

Quarterback Dak Prescott led the league in passing yards before suffering a compound fracture and dislocation in his right ankle in Week 5.

Moore joined the Cowboys in 2018 as quarterbacks coach, and the club promoted him to offensive coordinator the following year. Head coach Mike McCarthy kept him on staff when the franchise hired the veteran sideline boss in 2020.

McCarthy is also expected to retain his job regardless of whether Dallas qualifies for the postseason in Week 17.

Another genius move by our loser GM. Just like Jerry was the only person in the NFL that knew Garrett was a great head coach, now Jerry is the only person in the NFL that knows KM is a budding offensive genius and future head coach. Thanks, Jerry. Great move for another 25 losing years.

well, jerry probably won't make it 10 more years and it won't take them that long to figure it out he's not the next hc genius.

As soon as Jerry saw Boise rumors, it became a competition for him because of his bloody insane ego. He just couldn't let someone else take him. Same thing will happen when he extends Stats Prescott and we'll be stuck in mediocre limbo for another 5-10 years. I won't live long enough to see this team win another SB with this bunch of razorback bogans in charge for the long haul.

He would not have been resigned unless McCarthy wanted him back. He has been a very successful play caller and play designer, but any call that isn’t what fans think is best is a bad call. You have to be perfect in Dallas, and every call must anticipate and work against the defensive call. The opponent DC must never win a play or series....very tough crowd....with short memories regarding the coaches who won SBs here.

IMHO, it’s a good move. Get our OL back together, plus Dak and Jarwin, and the offense will be fine. REBUILD THE DEFENSE!

Im still not sold on the Kellen Moore experiment. Looking directly at such stats as having the 12th best offense is not always a true indication of success. There's so much more that goes into football or successful teams then one pure stat.

TOP plays a huge role into the success of a football team. KM has been ranked 18th and 29th which is terrible. We actually ranked higher then KC in 2019

Redzone efficiency. 16th and 29th which is horrible.

He also does not know how to utilize zeke to his best. Granted zeke has been trending down hill

This just shows the offense when healthy can score at will however that would all be fine and dandy if the defense wasn't a disgrace. We played our best football when we controlled TOP and let zeke control the flow of the game and wore down the opposing defense while keeping ours fresh and off the field. Zeke right now can not control the game anymore however if KM used Pollard and zeke to the full potential we could as many teams utilize split backs to far better success

If he lands the Cowboys HC job in 3 years, do you think he hires a young creative DC or an established vet?

One of the things I am looking forward to is a coach who doesn’t pick his staff based on nepotism.

In his first year as OC in Dallas Moore had the #1 rated offense in the league.

In his second year he had the team back there until massive injuries, including the starting QB hit the team. Even then he has them ranked in the top half of the NFL (12th I think), and that is with an entire OL that is out for the year (and starting 2 UDFA rookie tackles) and having lost even the backup QB for a few games.

He lost his starting QB, his all-pro LT, his top 10 RT, his all-pro RG, his all-pro center (to retirement), and the other OL have been in and out of the lineup.

With that, last week his offense put up over 500 yards and scored 37 points against a division rival.

The guy is doing one hell of a job with the offense and Dallas is lucky to have locked him up long term.

Get the injured guys back and give him a half-decent defense, and Dallas will win a lot of games.

This is absolutely, incontrovertibly the best thing that could have happened for the cowboys. I never doubted the outcome. No doubt, another move influenced by stephen. Some onow when to cut the cord. Not everyone desires to return home. Not even little baby ducks.
