Brother, 11th ACR owes you so much. We went in in 2005-2006 and did damage control from what you crazy ****s did :D

3rd Infantry Division also held down with y’all. We got their Brads. We were also assigned to Gen Casey in 05-06.

Still, you Marines made it easier for us. And I formed a bond with three Marines from a light unit (they were rolling 113’s) that got hit pretty hard. I was with a couple in the Green Zone while we got bandaged up. Myself from Check Point 4-1, them from Rte Cross Sabers.

I love Marines. Our unit worked with y’all when it was still ING/IA. We all babysat them. Dude, we watched them drop an RPG out of the barrel of a tube, not but 10 meters from us and one of our Brads. This was when we first hit FOB Liberty. We were like “is this what these guys are all about?”. One of our dismounts cold cocked their guy as he laughed about it.

KO’d him. Freeman. Man, if I could tell you what our beloved Freeman went through. He’s still alive, but a mess.

Anyways, we adore the Marines, especially those of you who fought with 3rd ID in Fallujah. You guys laid the scunion, brother!
ING's were so worthless. If they were asked to clear a house, they stopped in the first room and started searching for trinkets. We would have to point a barrel at them to get them to finish the house.

We used to flash bang them in their sleep all the time. Never got old

What always amazed me about vietnam was how almost step by step we repeated the French Mistakes that beat them. BUT beyond that was we forgot our OWN History as regards the Revolutionary War and how we fought that most of the time. Trying to fight a guerilla war with standard tactics is a losing proposition all the time.

The GALLING thing is the NV (Mainly Giap) DID learn during the war. After trying to fight us conventionally and getting their lunch eaten, they got smart.

The Tet Offensive was technically a military disaster for the NV. The Viet Cong were never a serious factor afterwards due to their losses. But the Pentagon and Johnson had lied so much and had lost so much trust that politically and PR wise it was a major triumph and really decided the ending of the war even if it took another 7 years.

Fact of the matter is that South Vietnam was always going to fall. The corruption and sloth in both the government and army was always going to doom them.

Finally got around to watching it. Im about half way through and Im coming up on Tet. So far Ive been totally engrossed

Im glad that its not a rehashing of Civil War. Civil War was great in roping you in with a time traveler effect, making you feel apart of the time period. Vietnam seems to draw you more into the social upheaval and cultural changes of the era.

However, like Civil War, it does well of painting a broad picture of the war. Not focusing its attention to just the battlefield, but painting a vivid picture of politics and social movements of the time as well

Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to check that out. I heard about the Vietnam War all the time as a kid, but was too young to understand it.
