Ken Hamlin's play

I haven't heard much about Ken Hamlin. The preseason games so far, he always seems to be out of position and then barks at who ever is near. He was always off last year and a lot of that was blamed on Roy Williams and deservedly so. I was wondering what others thought? Is he just going through the motions or someone else making him look bad or a combination of both?

So far the defense as a whole has played well. No sense complaining until they actually do something to complain about.

Well, he did have a missed tackle, took a bad angle on the TD run and was slow to get over in coverage on the other TD. But he did have a good tackle earlier in the game.

I am not complaining. I asked does he look out of position this year as many have said he did last year. He had a bad miss tackle last game where he just stuck a arm out there.

This is a make or break year for Hamlin no doubt. He essentially has a cap figure of $5.6 million next year. No way Jerry pays that with another subpar year. No excuses for Hamlin this year, he needs to have a year like he had in 2007. I was never big on the guy but I hope he can pull through.

I am hoping he has a great year also.

I haven't seen him barking at anybody...
Yes he was chewing on Jenkins on the touchdown. The announcers said that it was Jenkins fault for not staying with the receiver longer but Hamlin still did not get there in time. Just saying.

He made a nice play to get in position and it was a relatively easy catch. The next play was the 40+ yard pass interference play on Sensabaugh. :bang2:

Defense has been pretty good but I think they still leave a lot to be desired.

And he should have. Jenkins blew the coverage.

The way you fans think Hamlin is horrible is incredible. You want to cut a guy that played FS and SS by himself last season and replace him with who? Really, who? List some names.

Our D has been pretty filthy just playing base deffenses. Imagine when we start trotting out the blitz packages...

It's because Jenkins didn't get a hand on him...he ole'd him right to the endzone...Usain Bolt couldn't have caught up with him!!

Also if he has been telling players stuff on the field....it's because he is the QB back there!

Bingo. Hamlin had to read the slot receiver as well as the guy outside, and Jenkins gave him no time at all to do so. Jenkins didn't even land a finger on him. In that defensive scheme, you have to jam the receiver at the line.

Wade took fault for calling that defensive play so close to the goal line in his press conference.

soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...he allowed 12 points, and was 50% in tackling...........

that's the idea huh?

I remember his open field tackle forced a punt in one of the first series. Was the only time I saw him make any kind of play but there may have been others.
Coach will probably see them though. ;)

So Hamlin had read on the slot receiver that was already covered by Bobby Carpenter, AND Mike Jenkins?

Sorry, don't buy it. Hamlin WOULD have had plenty of time to get over on the TD, had he not hesitated and looked inside.

If Hamlin did have read on the slot WR, then Wade Phillips should not even be a highschool defensive coordinator, for calling a D that had Bobby Carpenter, Mike Jenkins, AND Ken Hamlin all covering the slot WR.

And Hamlin was taking a TERRIBLE angle if his read was the slot WR, as he was taking a completely sideways angle.

Should Jenkins given the WR a jam, yes. But Hamlin needs to get over and cover Gage on that.
