Doubt very highly we draft a LB in any of the first three rounds, just the way it rumbles. The problem that we have is we may be relying on these players when they may not be better than what we had. That's a recipe for failure. I think you trade for a Murray when you have someone in front of him for him to beat out for a job, not when you can't afford for the trade to fail. We need both Sanborn and Murray to not only play but play well (or we need to draft someone to do it) or we've taken a step backward.
I like both moves in a vacuum, but not as much when we don't have starters ahead of them. I mean, I'd love for Sanborn and Murray to step in and be upgrades to what we had last year, but that doesn't seem too likely. Sanborn is a solid thumper who can be exposed in coverage and Murray is a physical specimen who has poor instincts. Maybe scheme can overcome those things, but essentially we have to work around those weaknesses, or hope they can fix them, because we don't have better options.
Like I said, no problem with the moves for depth and competition, they just don't have anyone who is starting material to compete against. Our best linebacker is sidelined until who knows when and we're hoping Liufau progresses. Again, we can draft to improve the positions, but if we don't take an LB in the first two rounds our chances of getting a starter-quality one are not high.
Not when we need a OG, WR, RB, DL (not necessarily in that order) much more
Truth be told every professional sports player has a strength and weaknesses, so with that said Sanborn will be a starter, and Murray could really provide in the rotation with good coaching which we have.
