They have him cheap for two years, would cost a lot more if he hit the FA market. They have a load of comp picks anyway, they can afford to lose a few 7's.

Except if he got to Free Agency they have to outbid other teams for his services. By trading for him they get two years of control and a cheap salary

Look at what other back-ups are getting paid and Pickett is a bargain.
