A couple of things -- impressed with Burnett's play this year particularly since there concern his injury could limit his playing time early in the early. Do think we will see quite a bit of him against the Eagles particularly if they target Ellis with either Westbrook (if he still plays) or Shelton since Ellis still looks lost in pass coverage & Burnett also better against the mobile QBs like McChunky.

I'm on board with those who cite Ferguson as having a good year and it's not only our view. He's been cited several times by coaching staff as playing well this year. As for his backup, we've been using Ratliff quite a bit apparently & he might be the long term announcer--although I'm not sure Parcells wants to move him to DT/NG permanently. Might also be affected by the DT we picked up few weeks ago who hasn't played yet--might even still be inactive.

We've got a real good group of young LBs and that definitely includes Carpenter--who some on this board so eager to declare a bust and not worthy of first round pick. Many times first rounders are bust but usually that not the view of their team until at least 2nd year and we've certainly seen many teams cut those guys. We've been lucking cause all our first rounders since Parcells got here have been good. It took James a little while and now look at him. So many jumped all over Burnett, now he really coming on in his 2nd year; I see the same for Carpenter. Carpenter could easily participate even more in his first year but I think he's just having hard time getting into the NFL game (mind)--even tho he's a smart kid.

After all, look how well Gurode is playing for us at center--finally--and this is his 5th year. And those who jump on Parcells for playing only his guys forget Parcells wasn't even here when Gurode drafted in 02 yet Parcells had the patience to resign him as FA after 05 just because he continued to believe Gurode had the ability but concentration needed significant upgrade. Well, Parcells patience certainly won out with Gurode--thank God Torrin Tucker is gone. If Gurode continues to play as well for several more games, Cowboys will jump on giving him starter money at center to ensure he remains here for many years.

Only worry with Burnett is it looks like he is not going to get much bigger. Parcells commented earlier in the year that he seems to have topped out in the high 230's, which means he will have trouble ever being an every-down LB in the 3-4.

Love him as a nickle LBer, but a 2nd round pick for that is a bit high.

Where there hell did you get that from? Ourlads had him the 2nd rated OL behind Johnson.

GHow about converting him to a safety? What did Woodson play at? If I recall, he was in the 220s.

I said that last year and Glover ended up filling in far better than I could have ever expected.

I think Ratliff might actually be able to fill the nose tackle role if he had to. He may even be the long term developmental guy there.

I like what Ratliff brings to the table. I would just be scared to death to see him have to start there (NT) for an extended period of time. I think come next April you'll see us draft someone somewhere in rounds 2-4 that has true starter potential.

Maybe.

I think NT, like WR, is one of those positions where Parcells is pretty proud of his ability to mine guys later in the draft.

I certainly wouldn't be opposed to drafting a guy there though. I'd rather Rat stayed as a 3-4 end/nickel tackle.
