Why was Harrison better than Ware?

Ware had 20 sacks, 27 TFL, 2 passes defensed, 6 forced fumbles.

Harrison had 16 sacks, 16 TFL, 3 passes defensed, 7 forced fumbles, 1 INT.

I’d give Ware the slight edge based on their stats.

I remember Ware being on an 8-8 Cowboys team was the excuse for why Harrison won the award so easily... except Drew Brees was the Offensive Player of the Year in 2008 and the Saints were 8-8.

The Steelers having the best defense means they had better players around Harrison as well. Since when does that help the player’s case? Was Harrison the sole reason for their defense’s success? Pittsburgh had been playing great defense for ages.

I watched both. They had excellent seasons but the Cowboys were a disappointment that season. That was the year the Ravens ran the ball down our throats and embarrassed the defense. Closing down Texas stadium. The Steelers had the best team and therefore got all the glory. Ware had the better career but I think for that season Harrison was the better player.

Michah Parsons 2021(through 12 games):

72 tackles. 54 solo. 16 TFL. 10 sacks. 25 QB hits. 2 FF

Whats crazy is in 2015 Mack had 15.5 sacks and 23 TFL's. Parsons could finish the year either surpassing, equaling, or coming close to Mack's best stats from his two best seasons

Sadly this won't happen with him dropping into coverage.

DPOY has nothing to do with team record or unit ranking.

It is an individual accolade.

Parsons could have had multiple sacks last night, still being held a ton.

It’s not a why not both situation. As noted here earlier Ware had 20 sacks in 2008 and DPOY went to Harrison who had 16. So DPOY is largely subjective. Rookie sack record would mean 2 things, first 5 sacks down the stretch which would be huge for us. Second, it’s an objective accomplishment…you either got “x” or you didn’t. DPOY would be nice, but I would prefer the rookie sack record

DeMarcus Ware had 20 sacks one year and didn’t even come close to winning DPOY.

They gave it to a Pittsburgh Steeler who played the same exact position and who had fewer sacks.

They aren’t giving the award to a Cowboy unless they absolutely have to.
