Are a thing of the past I guess, I wasn't too happy to see this part of the game literally being null and void.

I have to wonder if there will be a large enough fan outcry to change this back. Have there been any comments by the players or coaches about it?

If there is any rule change that should be cancelled immediately, its the one. Hopefully the NFL takes action and changes it back.

Probably the worse adjust they have made in a long time.

Harris had a nice return (1 for 32 yards)as did Radway (2 for 62 yards). I would not call it null and void. No doubt the majority will be touchbacks but there will still be instance where the return man is going to take it out and anyone on coverage team falling asleep on it may be in for a surprise.

My vote is to move it back to the 30yd line, but keep the kicking teams line within 5-yds like it is under the new rules....

Actually this helps us. Haven't had a good returner for a while.

One of the dumbest rules that I have ever seen implemented. You are taking away one of the most exciting plays with the kick off return. Kill the game why don't they.

Yes, I agree with you.

I heard on the radio this morning that the NFL has the power to reinstate the old rule if all the owners agree.

no reason to sit through the commercials before the kickoffs anymore, just come back when the post kickoff commercial is done.

Eh....it's whatever to me.

I don't care one way or another if they bring the old rule back or not. If we're not getting as many chances for KO returns that means our opponents aren't either and that's fine by me.

If they want to make a quick rule change, they're going to have to start before the cuts start. I bet the Cowboys aren't alone in evaluating kickers and discounting for leg strength based on the new rules.

I like that.

Wasnt this the same rule we had for decades? We never had a complaint before.....or am I missing something here?

I understand there will be alot more touchbacks ......I guess kickers nowadays have stronger legs

I dont know.....guess we got spoiled when they put the previous rule in....

Well I think the stronger leg has something to do with it, but also the kicking tees have changed to the point to where its easier to launch the ball at a velocity and angle to make the ball go farther.

I will tell you what, ask Hos, he is the CZ kicker expert. :D

Kickoff length always decreases during the season, as the weather gets colder and kickers get tired/dinged up. I guarantee we'll be seeing lots of returns come December. And yes, this is the old rule, and it wasn't that long ago, really.

I think people are making a bigger deal out of it than need be.

In the 5 games played last night there were 35 kick returns
Including a return for 103 and a TD in the SD game. An 85 yard return by Jacksonville and Dallas had a 40 yarder as well as the Seahawks a return of 41.

And maybe we can carry a kicker who actually is good at making field goals rather than one who just good at kickoffs.

The last time the NFL had kickoffs from the 35 yard line, they also allowed higher tees. They were allowed to go up to 3". Now they limit the tee height to the 1".
