Kick off returns

I think people are making a bigger deal out of it than need be.

In the 5 games played last night there were 35 kick returns
Including a return for 103 and a TD in the SD game. An 85 yard return by Jacksonville and Dallas had a 40 yarder as well as the Seahawks a return of 41.

I think many teams were just wanting to evaluate the coverage units.

Bailey nailed the back of the endzone and Janikowski may have went through the uprights.....not entirely sure but I saw his first kick and it was monstrous.

I think there will be more touchbacks but teams will continue to make returns. I also think any coverage team that get lazy will get burned during the course of the year.

51 kickoffs on Thursday night and only 16 touchbacks. That doesn't sound that bad but I wonder how many of those kickoffs were by 2nd or 3rd string kickers who don't have the leg of the starter. If starters would have made every kickoff, what would the number have been?

The last time the NFL had kickoffs from the 35 yard line, they also allowed higher tees. They were allowed to go up to 3". Now they limit the tee height to the 1".

Cool, I couldn't remember it exactly. Just as a golfer, the higher the tee, the higher I hit it, but it does depend on your launch angle and such. Tee it low (with low loft), and its going farther for me. I just think they kinda underestimated how far kicking as come.

Whatever stats we wanna come up with, kickers were kicking it alot farther yesterday. I don't think a game should be decided on if the coverage unit was awake.
