Kicker is killing us

The Cowboys brought in three kickers to try out and didn’t sign any of them. You need to come to grips with the fact there’s no consistent kickers sitting on the street. They’re unemployed for a reason. The kicker some on the board wanted us to pick up missed an extra point for the Pats last night. You can’t just change to make a change or you’ll end up with the same problem with a kicker who has less leg. Kickers are streaky maybe Maher will come around. We’re just going to have to ride out the rest of the season with him and bring in some kickers to compete during the offseason. We could possibly use a late round pick on a kicker.

It it possible to poach a CFL kicker or are they all locked up in contracts and hence unavailable?

And he was released by the Patriots today. :muttley:

But there are better kickers then him in the CFL right now. And sure, scour the continents.

Yeah, I'd check the continents. There probably are better ones in the CFL, but Japan, Brazil, Germany, and England would be good places too.

You would have to figure CFL players are locked up in contracts and unavailable. They’re all on active rosters. That’s a different league with its own set of rules. The NFL allows teams to poach a player off an NFL practice squad. The biggest mistake the Cowboys made and we all said it during training camp was not bringing in competition for Maher. I didn’t take a crystal ball to know we would eventually reach this point with him. He was inconsistent last season and now we’re stuck 12 games into the season having to look at kickers. Another consideration you have to keep in mind when looking at kickers is do they have enough leg to kick the ball through the endzone on KOs. We’ve had issues tackling defensively and on special teams.

With Gould back the 49ers released Chase McGlaughlin.

You may recall he nailed a 40+ yarder as time expired vs Seattle to force OT, then badly missed a similar kick to win the game in OT.

Geez Oh Man he is still killing us but he is being out done this game by our horrendous tackling . Both are overshadowing our horrible coaching thats trying to set some kind of record for 3 and outs along with failed 3rd downs LOL

Sheesh this is bad

When your defense gets rolled for a season high offensive output by the Bears, your kicker doesn't make much difference.

Well, I think you have to look at it a little differently with Maher. It seems like he's about 3 misses below the middle of the pack. But he has 4 of more than 50, that other kickers aren't going to make. So it breaks even or thereabouts. Notice that he's considerably higher ranked in number made. You have to look at it that way, where it's a little bit of a trade off. I do wish we would use him more strategically.

If he hadn’t missed his kick tonight then we actually had a shot of tying the game at the end there.
