Is anyone else tired of seeing this guy return kickoffs and looking like he's got cement blocks on his feet... I'm ready to see Austin as the lead return guy, looks like he chomping at the bit to do so!

If you watch Terrence McGee closely on his KO TD - he positioned and primed himself so that by after 7-10 yds he was running at full speed looking to make one explosive cut. I'm not really sure what Tyson's plan is when he returns but as others have said he looks tentative and only occasionally uses the one gift that got him into the league - his speed.

He looks worse than I ever remember him looking. It's weird, the criticism of him before was that he had no "wiggle". Well, he actually has more this year, but his results are worse. He did better when he just picked a path and ran as hard as he could in a straight line until somebody got him.

His plan is catch the ball and run left until he runs in to a player......his own or the opposing teams it doesn't matter. :banghead:

He is returning close to 70% of his returns 20+ yards. The following are most of the players with most returns of 20+ yards, but as you can see lots of them have a lot more returns chances than Tyson has had. I added Dante Hall and Devin Hester into the mix because of their return abilities.
Code:
[B]Player Returns 20+ Yds Returns Ratio[/B]
Jose Cribbs 21 17 80%
Maurice Hicks 21 14 66%
Tedd Ginn Jr. 20 13 65%
Tramon Williams 18 13 72%
Chris Carr 18 12 66%
Devin Hester 15 8 53%
Dante Hall 20 11 55%

[B]Tyson Thompson 13 9 69%[/B]
And this without Keith Davis for two games. I don't see any real issue that *must* be changed. I think he is doing a pretty good job at this point. Once Keith Davis returns, things should look even better because Davis is one of the best if not the best (probably the best) STer on the team.

He doesn't make people miss. It's the same when he's in at running back. He's really fast in a straight line, but he can't get around anyone.

I cuss every time he receives the kick. He is no threat to ever break one. For all his speed all he does is jog up there and find the tacklers to bring him down.

Good I'm glad I'm not the only one cussing out loud...:laugh2:

From dallascowboys.com

In the kickoff return department,
Tyson Thompson is 14th in the the
NFC with an average of 22.1 yards per-
return on 13 attempts. His long
effort of the year was 46 yards
against the Giants.
* The Cowboys are currently 30th in
the NFL in kickoff returns (20.0
yards-per-attempt).

so there is definitely room for improvement

more than speed on kickoffs i think u need sum wiggle. its no good to go 100mph and right into the tacklers. wiggle ur way around (of course with decent speed)

btw, i'm liking crayton on punts. he's done way better.

Tyson Thompson is the Julius Jones of kick returners.

Julius was a great KR in college with Notre Dame. I'd like to see him get a shot seeing as he doesn't have a huge load on offense any more.

Because of Tyson "I wouldn't know what a juke was if I was watching Gale Sayers and Barry Sanders highlights" Thompson.............I am warming up to the idea of drafting DeSean Jackson....

I dont want to draft Jackson, but ******, our return game is sad, lame, Bob Dole and Mike Ditka impotent......Even if Jackson is only good at returning KOs and punts, so be it. Let him focus on that aspect and make our return game as lethal as our offense and our defense have become. Also on KOs, we can use Austin or Stanback.....

The problem with taking Jackson is my favorite WR in the draft is Adarius Bowman. I love his game size, speed, vertical and game changing ability. He is an awesome speciman to watch on the football field. I would love to have him in Dallas. However, our KR game cannot be ignored any longer. Thompson blows. I cannot stand him. I wanted him gone yesterday, and yet he finds a way to remain on the roster.
