They forced 14 fumbles last season and Ware had 5 of those. This year they have forced 12 fumbles and Ware has 0 at this point.

While I am not crazy about the discontinuity of bringing in a fresh coach...I *really* don't want to see a 74-year old Kiffin back at the helm next season. And no matter how bad the injuries...32nd in the NFL doesn't cut it.

Lots of teams are ravaged by injury and still don't end up 32nd. That seat...the 32nd seat...should be affixed with a no-escape ejector seat.

Bringing him in was such a huge mistake in the first place. I'm not suggesting we return to the 3-4, but we should get Rod or someone else to run THE THING.

I remember the Steeler and Cincy games. Big game changing turnovers. They created a late fumble against the Saints but couldn’t recover it. They had opportunities and the effort was there.

They gave up over 500 yards to the Saints with no turnovers and over 250 rushing yards to the Commanders with no turnovers. I don't think they are sacrificing yards for turnovers this season.
They gave up yards last year as well. Not quite at this pace, but they weren't good.

I don’t think anyone thought the defense was good last season. They had tons of injuries and an offense that had trouble scoring early in games. No doubt about it this scheme sacrifices yardage for turnovers. The bend but don’t break mentality. Hence why the Saints broke an NFL record 40 first downs. Raiders looked similar in the first half with how they moved the chains.

Here's my big gripe against Kiffin... Sticking with zone coverage (predominately) when it was pretty clear the best coverage scheme based on the abilities of the players was man to man– at least most of the players on the back 7. The corners had trouble with zone coverage, the safeties had trouble with as did the linebackers.

Now let me say Ryan did the same nonsense last year. A clear passing down? A soft zone and rushing 3 guys.

Why can't kiffin get more than one year? You dudes are so disrespectful to a coach with as much success as him. With this weak dline that he has. Rob had hatcher/spencer/ware at full strength for damn near two full seasons.

Regardless of what anyone feels about the job Kiffin has done, he will get another year.

1. Aren't Kiffen and Marinelli a package?

2. Didn't Parcells adjust yardage for turnovers?

Not necessarily. Didn't Shaub throw a pick 6 in like 5 straight games?

Are those true points allowed per game (by the defense) or is it points allowed per game by the whole team?

Defensive points allowed. Points scored against the offense are not included.

I miss mike zimmer

I liked Zimmer.

He was able to create a decent pass defense without having a good pass rush. Since then the pass rush has improved and the pass defense has gone into the dumper.

Zimmer had his corners play an aggressive bump & run scheme... I liked that.

I won't be surprised but you might as well flush next season down the toilet as bring him back. Kiffin was an awesome coach...twenty years ago.

What's so different now that what was run when Tampa won the SB? I'm talking schemes.

Ah ok. Interesting. Although I'd say that's an anomaly and doesn't happen too often.

Still, doesn't surprise me, a WP defense looking better than it really is.

Fix this issue and the rest go away.

Agreed. A healthy Ware and Hatcher were beasting early in the season. Hayden has been solid but seems to have worn down as of mid season. May need another big boy to push him next season. And Selvie is a joy to watch each and every game, guy does not play at anything less than 100%.

In terms of scheme his fundamental approach in the secondary is conservative zone. From preseason until now we've seen teams carve up the middle of that defense. His age is a huge factor.

Consider,
1. Almost all coaches in the NFL need to work 80-100 hours per week during the season. I simply do not believe 1 in 50,000 men in their mid 70's can effectively do that.
2. NFL coaching is 100% about adjustments, compensations, redirects...and the human brain is simply not as dexterous at his age. Studies show repeatedly that it's much more difficult for older brains to gather, collate and process new information.
3. I don't believe a 74-year old has the energy, vigor and...honestly the testosterone...to relate and command respect with 20-something athletes.... despite what nice political quotes you might get from a player.
4. His recent tenure is far from pretty. He was a complete failure at USC, despite a lot of talent on that squad.
5. He's gotten carved up just as bad in Dallas as he was in USC.

A more accurate comparison would be the last 12 games of defensive stats each coach had while coaching the cowboys not coaching other teams.
