King - Inside the Goodell Contract Extension

I'd love to see Jerry go completely rogue ala Al Davis. I wish there was some halfway legitimate rival league that a few big name owners could secede to and become real competition for the NFL.

Jerry put on a show for his fan base. Given the reactions here the last few months, it worked. Goodell's extension was never in jeopardy.

Arthur Blank, Robert Kraft, John Mara, Art Rooney II, Bob McNair and Clark Hunt.

Crazy that a new owner like Rooney II is on this committee.

Now I know family ties etc, but still.

And as we see with Mara the next one is never as good as the first one.
Dad is always better at this than the son.

They were in a hurry to tear up his deal and write a new one
Wonder if they would feel the same about the CBA
Or wonder if the networks might want to offer a new tv contract

We can influence the T V side. I only watch cowboys games . Nothing else. Declined viewership will cause the networks to want a cheaper deal and these short sighted owners and players will only have themselves to blame for Re upping this tyrant.

I seriously doubt that was the meat of the conversation between Blank and Jones. If I could speculate, it would be nice if in exchange for his vote and dropping the lawsuit Jerry got them to lift the bias of the officials on Cowboys games.

It has become quite clear that Cowboys fans WAY WAY overrate how important an owner Jerry is. It is also clear that the joneses overrated this and have been slapped and been told to sit quietly in the back facing the wall and key the grown ups get the work done

The committee structure in this was incredibly stupid.

Yes, a committee was needed as you can have too many cooks in the kitchen, but with any contract this size. You MUST require all owners to vote to approve or deny the contract details with a minimum of a 2/3rd majority for it to be ratified.

Allowing only six of thirty two owners draft and approve is freaking asinine.

JJ did get the contract to be mostly incentative based, he also wants cuts in the league office, so let's see on that

Well, what about the threat to Jerry of forcing him to sell Cowboys?

Help the league from inside? How? By being cooperative after being undermined by suspension of Zeke and all the BS officiating? The point is, say Jerry is a shrewd businessman all you want, but he has been screwed big time over the whole Zeke and Goodell contract extension fiasco - all Jerry could do is damage-control and reduce the loss.

Now Art Blank's words to Jerry are winner showing his class.

Blank said he spoke to the chief and vocal opponent of the deal, Dallas owner Jerry Jones, twice in the past few days, including Tuesday night. Jones had threatened to sue the owners last month because he was opposed to the tenor of the negotiations with Goodell and to extending him with a year-and-a-half left on his contract when there were so many contentious issues buffeting the league. Blank said Jones “understands the contract and how we got here,” and said Jones would be presenting some proposals on league matters important to him soon. There is a league meeting in Dallas next week. Pragmatist that he is, Jones could use that meeting to smooth over some of the rough feelings left by him going rogue in these negotiations and making some sensitive internal committee details public. In the end, it’s clear Jones still harbored resentment over the rush to extend Goodell for the next six-plus years.

The deal got done in the last six days. Each of the six members of the Compensation Committee divided up the owners. The six members spoke to the other 26 owners; Some owners had more than one conversation with their peers. Blank took Jones. One owners said he had heard Blank told Jones late last week, in effect: You’ve been an incredibly valuable owner in this league for more than 25 years. The league needs you. It’s better to help the league from within than from the outside. Jones had argued the committee wasn’t transparent enough. But Blank said each of the 26 owners not on the committee had been called at least five times over the last year to be briefed on the state of the negotiations and asked for their input.

Jerry got owned in this. LOL, Goodell just kicked his butt sideways.

Jerry's power is largely diminished now.

Agree. Lazy is as Lazy does.... The 2/3 rule makes sense for this type of venture .

There is another angle on Jerry and his power to this.

Jerry has clearly set himself up as the "opposition" to the current power structure. If (when in reality) the NFL continues to go downhill, the majority of owners will start wanting change from the current crop of power brokers so they can continue to make their money and Jerry will be there grinning.

If Jerry really is the great businessman many make him out to be, he may just be setting up his move, all along knowing the current gambit would not turn out in his favor. Basically, he might be betting on Goodell continuing to fail.

Of course, Jerry could also just be a drunk blowhard who just gambled away whatever power he did have to blow off steam. Guess we might find out in the near future.

That's why I think he might be OK with with the deal. It's all now on Goodell to perform. If he doesn't, he wont get all the incentive money and a $4 mill per year contract is a lot easier to buy out than say a $25 mill.

Jerry needs to think bigger.....go global. Start the world football league. The NFL keeps pushing for games over seas....why not start a new league w/o the NFL that includes teams from around the globe. You can't tell me other countries don't want in that cash cow. Heck...you could even start building a league w/ teams from Canada...New Mexico....London.

Hold the draft before the NFL's.... Let the war begin.

You can't tell me the NFL wouldn't crap in their pants if Jerry took his team and started his own league.:flagwave:

There is no way in hell the NFL replaces the Dallas Cowboys.
