And this is why Mayer is better TE than him.
Mayer looks like an offensive lineman, I hope he can block.

When I look at the highlights on both of these guys, Kincaid looks a lot quicker. But then again, I'm not sure if that matter a whole hell of a lot when it comes to TE.

A TE who can't run block. NO.
So is your argument that he was never asked to block when flexed out wide?

Or are you saying that he never took the field on a run play?

Both seem unrealistic.
It's not the 90s anymore grandpa. You don't need an elite blocking te. Kincaid has all the tools to be a decent run blocker. The elite offenses now have playmakers at tightend and that's what Kincaid is.
we dont know he cant block ,they didnt ask him to block .

I get the concern about blocking, but Kincaid is on a completely different level (multiple levels above) as a receiver than Schultz.

Kincaid has the best hands in this draft (WR or TE).
- He had 16 catches on 16 targets for 234 yards vs USC in 2022.

He is a terrific, contested catch player and terrific route runner with great cutting ability.

He is very good after the catch.
- One of only three FBS tight ends with 16-plus forced missed tackles in 2022.

Blocking Pro:
- Willing and functional run blocker … shows the play speed to fit, hook and seal on cross-formation blocks.

Blocking Con:
- Slender frame for the position and doesn’t have desired bulk … must continue developing his core strength … doesn’t have a strong blocking base and
finds himself upright and off-balance … reaches his landmarks, but his body angles are inconsistent when working up a level or pulling on perimeter runs … messy
pass-pro mechanics, often overextending, dropping his eyes and losing control …

most of the time he was split out wide.
And when asked to block, as the tape shows, he wasn't very good at it.

But it all depends on what the Cowboys envision from their TEs. If want they want is a seam buster, a Kelce clone, then take him. If they want a more well rounded TE that fits into their emphasis on running the ball more efficiently, then you take the potential in Washington, the consistency in Mayer or you look at the middle rounds for some guys like LaPorta or Kuntz and hope you can develop one into a good TE.

I get the guy is a great at catching the ball. Just seems he goes against what Mike M. said about wanting to run the ball more.

We already have a hole at LG and I don't see how adding a non blocking TE improves our run game.

Remember, it's not just about the passing game.
In the 1st round for a TE it kind of is.

If he’s a Schultz like pass catcher on his rookie deal and an above average blocker it would be a wasted pick IMO. That’s what I see him as.

He is a far better player then Dalton Shultz was last yr in the passing game. Better route runner, catcher and yac abilities.

lol. Once you see Mayer play in this league, you will think otherwise.

Even now it's difficult to put into words why Witten was a great player.
- There have been plenty of TEs drafted that were more athletic than Witten that didn't do much.

Even when defenses used a CB in man coverage on Witten, he often left that CB grasping for air after Witten's cut.
- Witten had the ability to see or sense when a defender shifted his weight to one foot, then boom Witten cuts in the other direction.

Witten had a toolbox full of moves and methods to beat defenders.

A few of the subtle plays by Mayer:
0:40
5:11
7:45

The difference in ability between Schultz and Kincaid is similar to the difference between Cole Beasley and Randy Moss...

Think we are on that same island again, both loved Tyler Smith and now Mayer, where the rest of the fan base doesn't.
