Analysis: The Dallas defensive line held up reasonably well this season with merely OK talent, but a lot of that had to do with how much the efficient offense was able to keep it off the field and fresh. The unit isn't going to simply get better unless it adds more talent. Phillips is still pretty raw, but he's got tremendous upside. At 6-foot-6, when you see him run you can barely fathom that he's carrying more than 330 pounds. Put a kid like this under the tutelage of Rod Marinelli and you could end up with something truly special. Dallas needs to prioritize defense in this draft after getting the offense where it needs to be, and Phillips is a reasonable upside play.

28. Denver - Benardrick McKinney ILB Mississippi St.
29. Indianapolis - Jaelen Strong WR Arizona St.
30. Green Bay - Eddie Goldman DT Florida St.
31. New England - Sammie Coates WR Auburn
32. Seattle - Devin Smith WR Ohio St.

You don't think the OL is finished?
Give me DL if there's a guy there. If not, give me a trade down or some other defensive position that's a clear upgrade in a pinch.

I'm concern about Free's recent injuries and age (I think he is 30 or 31).

The age is not too bad but his asking price in free agency may be of concern.

Why not add another talented young player to the offensive line for Romo? We witnessed the results from that this past season.

I feel that Jerry and Jason should focus on filling holes on defense through free agency if the prices are right and build through the draft with the best players available.

Wow 6'6 340 lbs and can really move. That's a large man. You don't see that very often. Wish there was a little more footage on him though. Here's the little that I found. He's definitely raw:

He also had chronic back issues, that's a red flag to me .

Cant see the Cowboys taking a 1 tech in 1st round. A 3 tech (although I like Crawford) or DE is more likely. I'm fine with anything on defense, prefer DE/DL, S, CB in that order.

I don't really care who they pick as long as they get good value. If an offensive tackle is the best value take him. Conversely, if a defensive player is the best value take him. But whatever you do don't reach for need or trade just to be cute. You simply have to hit on the first three picks in this coming draft.

We don't like tall DT's. Leverage is the name of the game inside in this scheme and it's hard for a 6'6 guy to consistently get it at the 1.

We also don't like taking 1's high.

Combined with back issues I think it's safe to say this guy isn't even on our radar.

Not high on him, especially in this system. Probably end up in Baltimore as Ngata replacement.

I would like the pick. Leon Lett may see a lot of himself in Phillips. Tall, big but super athletic! If not, Goldman from FSU would be my pick should the draft fall this way.

Add Phillips or Goldman in the 1st, a DE in the 2nd or 3rd depending on value to free agent pick Hardy (if he wins appeal and isn't facing suspension) or JPP and I will be pleased.

Obviously, there are hard decisions to be made with Dallas' own free agents but I think those take care of themselves and the team already has a plan.

I think it's a misprint.
Maybe he meant that we'd take Phillips with our 2nd round pick :)
Seems early

How about Alvin Dupree?

Kiper is probably projecting him into the first because you know he is going to blow up in the combine.
