17. Dallas Cowboys
Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama | Highlights

McKinney called me out last week because I didn't rank him as my No. 1 safety. I have Antoine Winfield Jr. just a little bit higher because of his versatility to play slot corner. But McKinney is the best pure safety in this class, and he'd be a great fit in Dallas, which has some talent on defense but lost starters Byron Jones, Robert Quinn, Maliek Collins and Jeff Heath. The Cowboys brought in Ha Ha Clinton-Dix for short-term help, but McKinney could be the future.

51. Dallas Cowboys
Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU | Highlights

This means I'm going all secondary for the Cowboys, for whom I grabbed safety Xavier McKinney in Round 1. With Byron Jones off to Miami in free agency, Gladney could challenge to start on the outside with Anthony Brown and Chidobe Awuzie. Gladney's 26 pass breakups over the last two seasons were the most in the entire FBS.

Have no issue addressing the secondary as they have so many fa's next season. They have to get better on the back-end.

Burrow
Young
Okudah
Simmons
Herbert
Tagovailoa
Brown
Wirfs
Jeudy
Becton
Wills
Henderson
Lamb
Thomas
Jefferson
Chaisson

Were the first 16 picks.

Will they do it? No. Would I like it? Yes. Gladney is an alpha dog ballhawk type they've said they want and McKinney is a smart player that would never come off the field.

With what was on the board, I'd take Ruggs and hope McCarthy and Kellen can figure out how to use that speed. I just don't see any of the top 3 receivers available when we pick. So I would be satisfied with Kinlaw or McKinney.

Getting Gladney in the 2nd would be steal. If we could come away with a Kinlaw/Gladney or a McKinney/Gladney first two rounds we'd be in good shape.

Brugler and now Mel predicting Kinlaw to fall to the Cowboys and beyond...

Weird that there have been no reports on his knee, but apparently there may be something more to it? Would think that if a top 20 pick was medically red flagged at the combine the story would have broken by now

Excluding the health concerns, some boards don't have him ranked that far above 17. NFL has him at 15-16.

We've seen stuff like this come out during the draft when a guy starts sliding. You'll see the coverage shift to Schefter or one of the other insiders as they explain how teams have taken a guy off their board for medical reasons. Maybe they wait to break the story during the draft for whatever reason. Would be interesting to see if this is happening to Kinlaw.

Not necessarily flashy, but both represent good value at the position taken and... both address needs. My personal take is that McKinney could be had a little later in the first round, offering the Cowboys a potential trade down to get him.

Kinlaw and a WR have always been my two most likely players to drop. Obviously this is a fake scenario, but this is how I predict it as well...I think Ruggs is the 2nd wr off the board and lamb or Jeudy fall

There will also be a surprise pick / trade up that nobody sees coming..at least one

3 of those names very well may be available at 17

I think most of all of us, would be doing backflips if both Kinlaw/Ruggs were available at 17, over the likes of Henderson/Chaisson. Now if the team decided to do a Frederick type of trade back and pass on these players the public outcry would even be too much for Jerry to handle. Both players should be on top of their board at need positions.

Think I rather have Delpit if I wanted a safety at #17.
And I don't really care for them to draft a safety in the first

Mckinney with the bama primadonna act. If he didnt go to alabama would he be hyped this much? Especially after running 4.6?

Agreed
