I could care less about what grade someone gives.
We all know what we seen on the field last season.
Another man's opinion doesn't validate that.

If Jaylon gets on the field it goes from A+ to GOAT

Only if we get to the Super Bowl. You can't be a GOAT and leave championships on the table. A? Yes. A+? See the 74 Steelers draft.

Yea, the only knock could be Smith, if he doesn't pan out. That being said, no other team better have an A if we got an A-.

Cowboys hit on a QB, RB, CB, DT. With two guys that should contribute this year.
Now, there's still some growth needed for guys mentioned above, but overall it looks like a great draft.

Finally, a sensible post.

This is another example of anti-Cowboys bias in the national media. I know it exists because many of the media members are from the east coast and Dallas has to live up to a different standard than other teams to earn praise.

If you get one really good player and two solid starters in a draft that's an A draft. If you get a franchise QB (the hardest position to fill in football) and another all-pro player, that by itself should be an A. Add two starters in Collins and Brown and it should be an A+ already. Smith and Tapper panning out close to their talent levels would make this a better draft than half the teams in the league have ever had. I don't know if it's GOAT, because Dallas and Pittsburgh had some phenomenal drafts back in the 70s. Despite getting little else that year, the Ravens drafting Ray Lewis and Ogden in the same year (two HOF players) is as good a modern-day haul as you'll find.

Because Ray Lewis and Jonathan Ogden got their teams to Super Bowls. You can't be a GOAT draft if the players you draft don't get you to the Super Bowl. That's why they play the game and draft, i.e., to acquire talent to get you to the ultimate game and then to win the ultimate game.

I agree to an extent. I don't see a 13-3 season as a failure, even if we lose in the playoffs. A one-game playoff is sometimes a crap shoot. When I can have fun on most Sundays in the fall, I see that as a success. If we keep focusing on marginal improvement, we'll get there. We'll eventually knock down the door.

With many playoff games decided by one play here or there, I don't see a close loss like the GB game as an organizational or philosophical failure. The Cleveland Browns have been an organizational failure. The Philadelphia Eagles have been an organizational failure. Maybe the three championships in the 90s softened me up because that was such a great time as a fan. Few organizations in sports ever get to give their fans that type of feeling. So I'm not desperate for a championship. I'm excited to be a contender again and loving watching the process of the product improving on the field.

2014 was a fun season as we broke through a bit. 2015 was disappointing for sure, but we had no backup QB and only a marginal RB. But that failure just made 2016 that much sweeter.

Wish I could like this more than once, because I agree with it.

I get all that. But ...

The issue here is the draft grade. We get an A-. I'm okay with that grade because I understand ...

A.) It is an evaluation of our entire draft, and our second pick didn't contribute
B.) It is based on the contribution of our rookies
C.) It is subject to change (it's not etched in stone) and
D.) No draft can be an A+, in my opinion, unless the draft class helps a team to a Super Bowl.

Mel gave Atlanta an A for his post-season draft. I don't have as much of a problem with that grade because that class did end up in a Super Bowl. But I haven't examined it from top to bottom to see how many of the draftees actually contributed to the Super Bowl run.

Do you really think you can write something on a message board and actually influence opinions? Kipper gave us an A- on one of the best drafts I can ever remember. He's an idiot.

And then you mentioned you can't get an A+ without those guys getting you to a Superbowl. And...dang it...I agree. I was righteously indignant and now you've stolen that from me.

Hey, that's cool. I got no issue with your take, you obviously have some thought put into it. And I'm never going to tell a fan how to be a fan. If it's Super Bowl or bust for someone, hey that's cool. I used to be that way, it left me pretty frustrated about the game. Maybe it's just the older I get the more I chill. Maybe it's all the whiskey (and whisky) I drink.

Fair enough. I did say "in my opinion." I treat this differently than, say, whether a player should get into the Hall of Fame. You can amass individual stats but not have the team around you to get there.

But the draft or a draft class is collective. It's main goal is to improve your team with a nucleus of talent that not only makes you better, but helps you compete for the ultimate goal, i.e., getting to and winning a Super Bowl. My grade stops at an A+, though there can be an argument made for A++ if one takes into account Hall of Fame players and Super Bowl wins from a particular draft class.

I'd prefer to keep it simple. :)

I saw the first post and thought to myself, "An A-? I wonder how many people will get on here to actually complain about that?"

And of course I wasn't disappointed.

A-?

My gosh that's harsh.

I would like to know what he has considered an A+ over the years and compare it to what we did last year.

We absolutely crushed the draft last year and im not even a fan of the Jaylon pick.
