My take. My initial thoughts on our draft were that I loved our first round pick, questioned our 2nd and 3rd round picks, and loved our third day picks.
After thinking about it and reading all I can about our picks, I've come to the conclusion that we should get a B+ or so for our efforts. From what I've read, we got value with pretty much every pick we made. Like many other Cowboy fans, I was disappointed with some of the positions we drafted, but you can't discount the talent of the players we drafted. It's absolutely obvious that our front office went into this draft with several things in mind. They knew they were getting rid of a few players such as Barber, possibly Columbo, and possibly Brooking. Like everyone else I think Barber is absolutely gone. We replaced him with a much more athletic and explosive RB that can also be a big threat in the passing game. Columbo and Brooking might or might not be kept on as backups, but regardless, their time will be brief. We addressed our biggest weakness with two OL picks that include the best overall OL in the draft and another player that by all accounts is tough, physical, and very coachable. We got a tremendously atheltic ILB, which we've needed for a few years now. We got a WR and a CB that I have to admit I knew nothing about, but the things I've read about them are VERY pleasing. We got a FB that I do know and he's a tremendous upgrade. Another guy that will give it his all.
I have to think the front office went into this draft knowing they were going to resign Free (a given), two of our free agent DEs, and a starting safety (most likely Huff). If these things happen, I'd give our draft a solid A, because we would have drafted the best players available, knowing we had some of our "needs" already taken care of. Don't forget that Brent-Price is really a part of this year's draft in reality. The bottom line is we got several really good players at the positions they man. Can't argue with that.
