I still think that Cason may be the "safest" pick of that 2nd lot of CBs that CL listed.

Cason has been very productive against TOP competition, appears to be a team guy, no off the field problems, good tackler, can also play STs, had an excellent Combine workout (including broad jump, vertical, etc.), very good instincts for the position, and has the hands to make a play on the ball.

What am I missing here?
Hos has a man-crush on him.

King is more talented then Talib and will be the stand out Corner this year. You wait and see. With Cmapo teaching him he would excell beyound belief.

After watching the highlight videos I thought, Flowes reminded me of Winfield. So Kiper is stealing my thoughts. Flowers is probably more of a cover 2 guy, but he's not a bad player IMO. Second round value probably.

FFToolbox Update (3/19/08): At Kansas' Pro Day on the 11th, Talib further cemented his status as a first-round prospect and strengthened his case to be one of the first couple taken after an excellent workout in front of the scouts. Talib ran times of 4.4 and 4.45 on the AstroTurf and according to Russ Lande on SportingNews.com, the first-team All-American was extremely impressive in his workout; saying that Talib wowed everyone with tremendous quickness, agility, and explosiveness when changing directions, that he showed great footwork and hip movements, and also that he showed good hands catching the ball. Lande added that one scout told him that it was one of the best cornerback workouts he'd seen in years.

That would be a complete reversal from the combine where he couldn't hardly stay under control enough to do the drills.

I want Jenkins, but he won't be there. Be nice to have two USF Bulls in our secondary!

Talib or Cason with the 28th. Either would work fine.

Last night while flipping around the radio trying to find anything but college basketball, I caught Kiper on Gamenight talking about the lower-first-round corners. In this case, that means excluding McKelvin and DRC. Here was his rundown:

Talib: The most talented of all of them. That's right, more talented than Jenkins or Justin King. Obviously, I was surprised at this given that Talib has had some questions about his athleticsm. Says Talib's negative is his maturity. Kiper didn't explain that comment... I assume he means how cocky the guy is.

Jenkins: Says that he is scary. Some games he looks great, then other games he looks very shaky. Talented, but the lack of consistency is very concerning. Kiper almost sounded more down on him than on any of the others.

Flowers: Sounded like Kiper still liked him. Said he played a lot faster than he timed and was by far the most physical of the bunch. Said if you want a run-support corner, this is the guy. Compared him to Antoine Winfield, which got my attention because of course Winfield was drafted by Buffalo when Wade was the coach there.

King: Very talented, almost as talented as Talib (again, I don't get that, as King is MUCH faster) but needs so much coaching and technique work that you're not sure what the final result will be. A real boom-or-bust type player.

Comments?

I honestly dont want any of those 4 CB's...I think they are all boom or bust types, and Flowers has very little upside as well.

So did DeMarcus Ware.

If you have the talent, teams figure they can coach you.

And being the cousin of Antonio Cromartie doesn't hurt either. :)

there's one other difference though, Ware was really a good player in college. There are quite a few reports out there on Cromartie that seem to indicate he was very up and down against even far lesser players.

Ultimately down the road he may work out as the best CB in the draft, but I think its unrealistic for people to think thats he's gonna walk into te NFL from Tennessee St and be a solid contributor from day one.

FWIW:
Tennessee State (March 21)
Fifteen NFL teams were present, including seven defensive back coaches. Six players worked out outdoors on a grass field.

CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (6-1 3/8, 182): Had a 37 ½-inch vertical jump, 10-foot 11-inch long jump, 4.14 short shuttle, 6.63 cone drill, ran position drills and kept his combine numbers for everything else. Offered to run the 40, but was told it was not necessary. Dallas sent two people to videotape his workout.

While we're at it, I'll just add

» OL Chris Williams (6-6 ¼, 320): Did position drills and kept his numbers from the workout. The Cowboys sent a two-person video crew to tape his workout.

from the same link you posted.

Talib is not as physcially talented as regards speed and quickness; Kiper sometimes is out to lunch. With CBs its all about burst and quickness since you have to react to the WR and the ball.

DRC from very limited highlights, has trouble playing the ball. That scares me as a top ten pick, but I think he's worth the risk in the 2nd half of round 2.

We'll see if he really goes first, he might, but I wouldn't call it a lock he has holes in his game.

First of all... How have we never had a drink together? I am huge Cowboys and Bulls fan, Live in Tampa. I drive a blue 05 WRX... with enough work done to it to make a poor STi cry :)

Secondly... Jenkins has a bad habit of playing down to the competition... I think hes by far the best of the bunch!

Only thing that matters is how the Cowboys evaluate him.
