i could care less about punts. (from a top 10 talent)

its about potential 3 years from now... at their main position

pp is big, fast, strong and quick. he can learn improved technique. he can get by with shoddy technique and still make plays for you and hold his own but he'll be outstanding once he plays with proper technique.

dez is an awesome return guy but in 2 years when he is our lead wr i doubt he returns more than 5 kicks a season.

just as dez is the best athlete we have at wr pp would the best we have at cb quite easily.

he wont ole tackle folks or get beat by 10 yards due to speed issues. i fully expect he'll occasionally be beaten by superior route-running early but his development is all in technique and recognition.

prince plays with better technique but he'll be out-athleted by bigger, stronger WR. pp can handle a dez bryant type athlete from a size and speed standpoint, prince probably can not.

pp did see green and julio a lot in college.

GM's and scouts probably care about anything that adds value and versatility to a player.

Not caring about a top 10 picks PR ability means you wouldn't care about Deions PR ability if he were on the board.

thats accurate for sure.
i wouldn't.

deion returned punts and played offense after teams totally avoided throwing to his side of the field.

that's the real value.

i can find an undrafted kick returner to average 2 yards less per return and live with that. try finding another guy who can shut down half a field.

deion is going into the HoF as a CB not a returner.

anyone who drafts a guy top 10 to return punts is insane. you draft them to dominate 60 plays per game not 4.

I want either Quinn or Smith. The defense was alot more broken than the offense. If Romulus wants to play a 46 then Quinn makes alot of sense at 9. You could pick up a Brewer or Wisnewski at 41 to start fixing the O Line.

Clearly I didn't suggest taking a PR only guy top 10.

PP isn't anything remotely close to Deion and never will be.

But at least he brings some other skill-sets to the table as he improves at CB.

Anyone who can average almost 30 yards per kickoff can probably help a team that is usually pretty awful at starting field position.

He is not a safety he is a CB . As I said it would not be my choice however he ranks as high as he does because most people think he is a top player.

What will be funny is like every other draft if we pass on him and he ends up being a stud some where else people will complain that we could have had him and passed and shows how much Jerry is an idiot. :laugh2:

He doesn't have "closing speed" therefore I think he will suck as a CB and the fact that he is 205lbs, I think he would be better as a safety.

I disagree I think the guy has shown himself to be one of the nations top CB. I know some will point to the OSU game but if we judged all players based on 1 game you would be hard pressed to find any worthy of a high draft pick. His overall play drew heavy praise because the kid has talent.

I'm not talking about one game. Go look at every time he gets beat badly. They are always on fly routes. Once the WR gets separation on him, he can't close the gap if the WR is running straight. (fly, or across the field, etc)

He has some speed, he just doesn't have closing speed. (they are different)

Deion was both fast and had unreal closing speed. Thats how he was able to bait QBs into throwing INT so often and why QBs just stopped throwing to his side. Asante Samuel, Champ Bailey, they all have great closing speed. Prince? Not so much.

Basically, he is better off covering TEs and RBs and an occasional 3rd WR IMO.

Patrick Peterson - DB - Player NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock believes LSU CB Patrick Peterson's ultimate position at the next level may be safety.

"I think he can play corner," said Mayock. "But down the road a little bit, because he's a big, strong guy that can run, I think he might be an all-pro safety." Mayock noted Peterson's "stiffness" in his hips, comparing him to Giants FS Antrell Rolle who couldn't stick at corner. Peterson is considered a dominant athlete. Expect him to remain a top-six pick unless he authors a disastrous Combine performance.

personally i dont care i love this kid he just seems special. And it's not like we dont need a FS. I hope other teams think the same thing it's a win at either postion for us .

I agree with the dilhole. I think he can play both, but ultimately safety might be his best position.

He did not get beat often if he had he would not be looked at as a top 10 prospect. As far as I'm concerned watching him play he can do the job just my opinion and evidently one shared by many around the league because if scouts did not think highly of him again he would not be rated as high as he is.

I think he plays great coverage, he just doesn't have the closing speed to cover the fast WRs in the NFL. Which is why at 205lbs, I think he would make a good free safety. It's just my opinion. If the Cowboys grab him, without question he would get looks at both positions.

I don't think either Peterson or Prince would go that high if teams felt they could not play CB. I think it would be foolish to draft a CB with a top 10 pick and then put them in a position they have not played before.

I agree in that I wouldn't draft Prince with a top 10 pick, (at either CB or safety) but someone with Petersons skills and athleticism. Yes, I would draft him even as a safety with a top 10 pick.

All I can say is I would not draft a position player who has shown very good skills and then move him to a position he has not played. S and CB are just not the same. Not saying he could not do it but to I just don't think you experiment with a high draft choice like that

I am willing to bet Peterson runs faster than a 4.49 and 4.52 like Rolle did.

Peterson looks like the Dez Bryant of CB's.

He may not be perfect at CB, but when he takes 2 punts and 1 kickoff for a TD he looks much better.

After what happened to Dez and if we drafted a Peterson somehow, I wouldn't want my potential cornerstone, high-priced CB playing special teams.

I say a sprinkling of Dez/PP in the return game. Maybe 1 or 2 a game just to give teams something to think about

I'd rather have PP there vs Dez.

Dez takes more big hits than any player I have ever seen besides Earl Campbell and Mark Bavaro.

totally agree, this is why i want to draft a slot/speedy return like receiver.

Dooms, you should definitely check out Wes Buntings' scouting report on Prince at nationalfootballpost.com.

It kind of summarizes some of the hesitancy with respect to Prince (for me at least).

You may or may not agree with him, but it is an interesting read and a different perspective.
