I have to admit that was a smart and gutsy call. on a 4th and one having Kitna out of all people do a naked bootleg and end up taking it to the house was not what I was expecting. I laughed my butt off on that play

Brilliant call that would have made Garrett look stupid if it didn't work.

How about Free running ahead of Kitna and making the key block? Another example of his being a good athlete.

Good gutsy call that will pay dividends down the road as teams have to factor that type of crossup into the mix....and keep the def ends accountable and thinking about it.........

...isnt that the type of call New Orleans Payton has received accolades for......thinking outside the box

You could say that about many plays though. Had we done a straight hand off and got stuffed people would have questioned it. Det has some pretty stout boys on that defensive front and they were all looking for Barber to get the ball. Last guy they expected was Kitna.

Not really. In that situation, the offense really can't lose given the time and score. At worst, if a DE is there waiting, Kitna takes a dive to save himself. It would be the same as Barber getting stuffed. I wouldn't call it brilliant but it's a nice playcall that would catch most defenses off guard.

That's why it was brilliant. Coaches playing for their job are usually conservative. If we do a straight handoff and get stuff, he would have the excuse of a bad offensive line. If the defense does account for Kitna and tackles him behind the line the only person to blame would be Garrett for putting Kitna in that situation. It's part of the job but that call required some guts from Garrett.

I like the call by Garrett. He is starting to show me something. I also wonder if he was tanking it a bit in order to help get Wade out the door?

I really do not think Garrett was tanking to get Wade fired. I think Jason is a bit more professional than that.

That would be jeapordizing his own job and reputation. Garrett is doing things completely his way for the first time. So far so good.

Yeah you can question any play call if it doesn't work.

It's so easy even Cowboy fans can do it.

I was laughing so hard while watching his 38 year old butt slowly running toward the endzone for a TD. It was great.

Did he tell the defense to suck too ?

I agree, I was against Garret, but I underestimated how loose a ship wade was running and how much it affected Garret play calling. I always like brash, strict displinarians like Jimmy, Cowher, Parcells. Garrent is growing very much on me, hope he proves me wrong and becomes the coach we have been looking for since Jimmy left town

Hey folks,

I am kind of surprised no one has yet to mention how eight years ago Chad Hutchison did a similar naked bootleg against the Niners in Dallas.

Nobody remembers that?

This was the game where Campo tried a 53-yard field goal at the two minute warning, came up short, and had Owens catch a game-winning touchdown pass over Duane Goodrich. This game was the straw that broke the camel's back for Campo's Head Coaching career.

Anyway, as Kitna was "Running for Daylight" I was thinking of Chad Hutchison from eight years earlier.

Hard to believe that the Carter-Hutch debate was seven to eight years ago.

Hutch was a bit younger than Kitna. A Det defensive player before the game had said at least with Kitna you don't have to worry about where he will be and yet Kitna not only pulls off the bootleg but has another run that helped net a 1st down.

That's exactly why he called that. I enjoy watching Garrett play chess with the opposinig staff. He's 2-0 and quite frankly, color me impressed.
