It helps when legs tangle in rolling. Don't have that problem in blocks, they slow down. Center of balance control helps most on both sides of the ball. When I had to where them I hated it because it considerably decreased your agility.
But yes it does help protect your knees.
Especially when 300 pound guys hit the ground and start rolling around potentially into the side of your knees.
Bill Parcells and Jimmy Johnson said yes and made them wear them in practices. Maybe why you never lost OL and DL in practices with those Super Bowl winning Head Coaches.Question for the board. Do knee braces actually help prevent knee injuries? And of so why would teams/players be against wearing them? Just looking for info here. Thanks
This.Bill Parcells and Jimmy Johnson said yes and made them wear them in practices. Maybe why you never lost OL and DL in practices with those Super Bowl winning Head Coaches.

Parcels made them all wear themI think some years ago, they had all the OL wear them in practice.
I know some other teams did this as well.
personally all OL & DL i would force them to wear Knee and ankle braces in practice... they blow it up in a game so be it. but protect them in the practices.Question for the board. It was mandatory under Parcells.I think some years ago, they had all the OL wear them in practice.
I know some other teams did this as well.
Being injured also effects their play.I think a lot of colleges require them also. I had heard that some players claim it effects their play. I just thought it would make since if the stats showed that wearing them decreased the chance of major injury.
But how were those leather helmets? In hs a long time ago we had to wear all of the pads and yes it felt restrictive but in a game it felt more natural somehow. Probably the adrenalin, lol.
