Question for the board. Do knee braces actually help prevent knee injuries? And of so why would teams/players be against wearing them? Just looking for info here. Thanks

When I had to where them I hated it because it considerably decreased your agility.

But yes it does help protect your knees.

Especially when 300 pound guys hit the ground and start rolling around potentially into the side of your knees.
It helps when legs tangle in rolling. Don't have that problem in blocks, they slow down. Center of balance control helps most on both sides of the ball.

Bill Parcells and Jimmy Johnson said yes and made them wear them in practices. Maybe why you never lost OL and DL in practices with those Super Bowl winning Head Coaches.

We just don't need to practice to into the season and by week 6 our bodies should be adjusted

I think a lot of colleges require them also. I had heard that some players claim it effects their play. I just thought it would make since if the stats showed that wearing them decreased the chance of major injury.

personally all OL & DL i would force them to wear Knee and ankle braces in practice... they blow it up in a game so be it. but protect them in the practices.

Being injured also effects their play.

There has been a noticeable uptick in guys wearing those cutoff pants that only come down to the mid thigh this year. Basically poo pooing protection for most of the leg. Shockingly the Cowboys have been losing guys left and right to leg injuries this camp. Just an unfortunate coincidence I guess. Reminds me of when guys would get hip pointers and deep thigh bruises because they refused to wear hip and thigh pads and end up missing significant parts of the season or playing at diminished capacity owing to injury. Players should be required to be wearing as much padding as humanly possible when practicing and playing the game. It's stupid to risk a multimillion dollar investment so he can look cool ...

In hs a long time ago we had to wear all of the pads and yes it felt restrictive but in a game it felt more natural somehow. Probably the adrenalin, lol.
