Kosier Opinions

Some believe that he's one of the weak links.

From what I saw this year he was a strength on the O-line. He's smaller but is athletic and a master of leverage like Free.

What are you're opinions on his play during the year and especially against the Vikings? Does LG need a serious upgrade?

Also, is he a good value contract-wise and when is his contract up?

I think he is a good lineman who can get pushed back easier than I would like to see from my starting G. I would hope we can get someone in there who is a more physical at the point of attack. I like Kosier so I don't say this for any other reason than I think we can do better.

He's an above-average lineman, who will never make the Pro Bowl but will be steady for you. He's not strong at the point of attack and has problems with massive defensive linemen. He doesn't seem like the smartest OL as well. I remember that one play in the Vikings game where the defensive lineman looked like he was going to drop back and did a delay rush. Kosier totally whiffs and Romo goes down once again. He's a good player, and his contract runs out after the 2010 season.

In the 2008 season, the Cowboys were playing a lot better with Kosier than without him when he was out and injured. Then he was back this season and another great year for the line. I don't know that he's the ultimate OG or anything, but 1 Kosier > 3 Cory Proctors and a half dozen Montrae Hollands.

Mixed emotions about the guy. We certainly missed him during 2008.

His 1st half vs the Vikings was not good. Lots of confusion.

Kosier is a good player. Definately our best lineman on screens, so I'd say we don't need a serious upgrade. However he's 31 now and the skills he relies on, will only decline more and more, unlike guys like Leonard Davis and Gurode who are maulers and can probably play well into their mid thirties.

I used to think he was one of our best olinemen but he took a step back this year.....just like the rest of the oline.

Just like Flozell we need to find his replacement.

Kozier is not as strong as some, but remember what happened when he went out of the lineup? I think he is one of our smarter linemen however. Something I thought was telling; part way through the season, there was a game where they had a number of close ups of the line in pre snap situations. I noted that Kozier, not Gurode, was pointing out the blocking assignments.

If you do find someone who can replace him, I do think he would make a super back up.

No doubt his return was a big help and he is better than Proctor and Holland but can we do better? I would hope we can.

I agree.

LG would be pretty low on my list of positions to upgrade.

What we don't know is how he grades out with coaches. We see a couple places, maybe a game where he seems to have not played well, but what was really behind that? Was he 100% healthy (well, 90% anyway)? What did he do that was really good that we didn't see? Coaches go in and look at every play in every game and assign grades, because they know what was expected of the player and what he did. We look, and we think we know, but we only see them for a few moments here or there usually. We see them give up a sack, or make a big block on the outside when they pull, but not every play. All I mean by that is I don't know enough about what he did right and how he grades out compared to his teammates to say whether he's the place we need to upgrade. Obviously, we need to do something about that line. Not being able to make a yard on the ground when we need it, or letting Romo get killed in the NFC Championship isn't going to take us where we want to go. I know Big Len and Gurode made the pro bowl, but not sure they deserved that. We can't come back with exactly the same starting line next season. Our kicker and our O-line lost games. It's easy to point at Kosier, since Gurode and Davis went to the pro bowl, but not sure if that's an accurate ordering of problems on the line.

Wouldn't suprise me if we resigned Kosier for a couple years.

31 isn't old for NFL OL.

Ask yourself this: Name all the games where Kossier started and Dallas lost, that you can point to Kossier's poor play as a key contribution to the loss(es)? The answer will tel you all need to know about the starting LG position in Dallas.

Who is Kossier? ;)

He came back from a year of injuries. Do we know those problems weren't lingering for Kosier or if knew ones surfaced?

What we do know is that Flo went down with a calf injury.
Colombo was trying to come back from a broken leg to early.

And Surprise: Our Pro Bowl Center is having knee surgery.

That only leaves Bigg as possibly the only healthy guy on the O-line unless we hear otherwise.

We NEED to draft an OT and a Center that can play Guard at the very least. Maybe not for immediate replacement of our current starters but for depth and competition along the line. Many of us said O-line was gonna make or break us at the end of the last season, now we are SCREAMING IT for this one coming up...

I don't disagree with that. I don't get the game film to isolate on 1 player or know if he carried out his assignments as it was drawn up. I also know lineman do not get noticed much unless they make a mistake.

Having said that I still think we can get stronger at that spot and I don't say that because Gurode and Davis went to the Pro Bowl frankly I'm not in awe of the pro bowl selection as I once was.

Finally If I can find a better lineman or a lineman with a good chance of developing into a top lineman no matter the position I would look to grab him in this draft. I have nothing against Kosier I just feel we can and should look to improve along our line
