the panthers are rumored to be releasing him because of the price of his contract. if rivera is coming to dallas. this might be the perfect kind of DT that would fit right next to ferguson. of course he has some injury issues, and he would cost some, but i think the rewards could be very high with a player of his caliber.

on a side note, i have never seen a player whoop on larry allen the way i saw jenkins in 2003.

Unfortunately the Jenkins of 2003 doesn't really exist. But if we are going to switch to some form of the 4-3 I wouldn't mind him next to Ferguson, assuming he is healthy.

the price tag isnt the only reason...he is often injured and just hasnt lived up to the play he had that one year....injuries and poor conditioning have sent his career south quickly.

I would rather go after an up and comer like Terdell Sands of Oakland.

I would be willing to give him an incentive ladden contract. He was a monster a couple of years back.

terdell sands is a gut like keith traylor. he's be good for a 3-4 but in a 4-3he's worthess

the whole carolina defense had a bad yr except for peppers. i think jenkins just needs to be motivated. and he is coming back from 2 yrs of injury. just like colombo. i think jenkins if rumors are true, and he hits FA could be the steal next yr. the guy has the talent.

Good Idea  Fegurson need some type of help because he is a weak nose tackle.

I would love this signing for a whole lot of reasons but the main one would be because of the "pass rush"

A weak nose tackle? Um, look at the run D throughout the year, and tell me Ferguson was a weak nose tackle.

You are a moron.:bang2:

Okay I know he could defend the run, but how many sacks he has this year?

Where was we in sack total. Your Nose Tackle is suppose to get a push up the middle for the ends could come in. What's up with the personal attacks? It's just a sport. I didn't know you take this serious.

Do you get a pay check?

Your asking how many sacks a 3-4 nose tackle had? FYI, Jamal Williams, who some clame to be the premier 3-4 nose tackle in the league had a whopping two sacks this year.

Btw, I believe we are staying in the 3-4 regardless of who comes in, including Rivera.

Fergie is a very solid NT- not great, but solid. Its questionable whether Jenkins can stay healthy enough to make a difference.

Fat cat
Panthers defensive tackleKris Jenkins looks to be a heavy load. He could be anywhere between 360-380 pounds. He has difficulty maintaining his stamina in practices and no longer looks like the dominating player he once was — possibly the best DT in the league back in 2003.

Carolina protected itself against another Jenkins' meltdown by signing ex-Steeler Maake Kemoeatu, a 6-foot-5, 350-pounder, to play inside.

I've seen other similar reports about Kris Jenkins... and honestly I just think he wouldn't be a good fit. Didn't he finish the season on IR again?

yup, i seen all them too. and im pretty sure warren sapp had them same kind of issues when tampa let him go. all sapp needed was motivation, and look what he did this yr. 10 sacks.

Just because Sapp did it does not mean Jenkins can. Its a gamble. and he would be expensive. PASS.

For Sapp I believe it wasn't about motivation. It was about the fact that the Raiders were attempting to run the 3-4. I believe Sapp was playing DE at that time. His play was slipping even in Tampa, but the scheme change made his play fall off enormously. Raiders went back to playing the 4-3. Got a couple more beasts on the line and he's been able to stand out. Motivation was never an issue for Sapp, a bad scheme was.

With Kris Jenkins, it's pretty consistent that he's always out of shape and injured. For a team on the rise, I don't think he's someone the 'boys should go after.

Morning WG,

Your observations about Sapp and his performance a very astute. That is exactly why he fell so far in Oakland. I think the point can be made that he started to fall off his last 3 years in Tampa but even then, he registerd 6, 7.5 and 5 sacks, from the DT spot, respectively. DE in a 34 just isn't a good fit for his talents. 3 technique DT is much better.

As for Jenkins, well, I'm of the opinion that if we could sign something reasonable, he might work out well. Of course, how willing would he be to reasonable and what is a reasonable figure are always the questions arent' they? If a deal could be struck, I would think he might be valuable. Here in Dallas, he would not be expected to play 16 games, 4 Quarters. He could be part of a nice rotation regardless of scheme. I don't think he's the answer for us at 3 technique in a 43 but, we have 4 guys on our roster now that could play 3 technique DT in a 43. He might just be a the guy we have missed that can come in with Ferguson without the drop off in performance. Would probably extend both players careers and provide us with a nice rotation for the season. I'd probably be in favor of it.

Jenkins is one of the best DL in the game. Yeah he's been slowed by injury but so was Ferguson before he came. I think it would be a good move. If Carolina releases him he'll have a chip on his shoulder but I sure would miss the parties he throws here in Charlotte.

You make a good argument for Jenkins.

With the way the 'boys have been doing business recently, most of the contracts being done are fairly reasonable, so that's a non-issue for me.

I just find it hard to find favor in the 'boys taking on a player with a past of injuries and weight problems. I'd question his contribution level. To me, he's kinda like a Terry Glenn injury risk, but without the Parcells history. If a coach from the Panthers were brought onto the staff with a history of his play, then I might not have as much of an issue.
