He came into camp looking good ar RT they moved him to Guard because that position was sucking and injured. By all accounts Free has looked good, except your own account but then I have a feeling Free could make it to the Pro Bowl and you would still have an ax to grind.
There are lots of guys who look good in training camp. He might even be a pro bowler this year. Heck, he could be an all pro.

I still would have cut him as soon as the season ended last year.

As I said the reason they moved him to G was not because of his play it was the play of the G spot. You are right pre season and camp is just that does not tell us how any player will do, we are about to find out if he can maintain the type of play he has shown recently. In the meantime cutting him and then what Parnell? Give me a break

He's definitely playing better. How much more than the last 1/3 of last season we won't know until we go live and see a few games. He was never as bad as many thought last year so he's not magically gotten better. From the grapevine we're hearing he's bought into Callahan's scheme and stopped fighting it. He's still looking average to me but again we need to see his play under fire. I think he'll be solid. Maybe he'll be better. I'll wager he still needs to work on his hands and nastiness. But I'll take solid at G or T. I'm more worried about Parnell. I expected him to be better by now after seeing him play last year. Maybe he'll be better than I'm thinking right now. If so at least we have 3 serviceable tackles.

When Waters starts playing, assuming he does play well, I wonder who will be the swing tackle.

They could have cut him and signed Winston who couldnt possibly have been any worse...

If his play was so good at RT, they wouldn't have thought they could get away with moving him. Why not move Tyron to LG? Tyron would probably give you better guard play than Free.

My biggest gripe with keeping Free around is that it gives him a pass for last year...and Im not just talking about getting abused, but also the tons of mental errors. The false starts. That type of thing is inexcusable, and not cutting him completely undermines any attempt to establish an organization that holds players accountable.

Yeah he had no choice but he could have a bad attitude after reducing his salary in half, and moving him to RG and then back to RT.... So I'll give him props for being a professional

LT is not the same as RT this is why LT make more money it is a key spot. As for Free getting a pass? how so he went from a 7 mill contract to 3 I think that sent a message and if he can get his game back in order as he has shown thus far then it is a win for Dallas. The personal agenda are beyond rediculas now even if he plays great you will still be upset? LOL god fans think more of their opinion than what takes place on the field.

Not a smart move, cuz then the most important position on your online is weak if you move smith

Where did I say if he plays great Im going to be upset? Sure, I hope he plays good. Doesnt mean I think he shouldn't have been cut.

Hell by that reasoning a lot of guys should have been cut last year. I don't excuse his play and he has paid a price and that price was around 4 million dollars. I don't see anyone else taking a hit like that on the team. Instead of whinning about it or moaning he got off his butt and went to work and thus far that has produced positive results. So don't tell me he did not get held accoutable he did

Yea, crappy players should get cut lol...though Im not sure who all you are referring to. There is a reason that only a handful of guys are still around from before JG took over.

I don't give Free props for taking a pay cut, because he had no real choice in the matter. I do give him props for keeping his head up and working to try and get better. Early indications are he might have corrected some of the technique issues that caused he play to fall off.

Time will tell I guess.

I agree. I make no excuse for the guy he played poorly and the Cowboys were right in forcing him to take a pay cut but like you I respect the fact he manned up and got to work to improve as a player.

They didn't give him a choice. They said take a pay reduction from 7M to 3.5M or we're going to cut you.

I would give him props for maintaining a good attitude. He was reported to be helpful to the young players during TC.

Yup. Most guys taking a major pay cut would be uber bitter and barely function.
This guy has said he'll do whatever it takes to win.

Hope he bounces back and recovers his money in a future contract.

Like I said.

Paycut or veteran minimum somewhere else?

What a gracious soul with a super attitude.
