Just curious as to the opinions around here regarding Kyle Bollar. Not sure that I'm overly impressed, but he is young (versus the long toothed Johnson), he has a strong arm, is mobile, and he is available.

It is a sad state of affairs when virtually anyone pulled off the street would be a better alternative then our current backups.

Please share your thoughts. Thanks.

I'd be interested to see what he could do but I wouldn't give him more than vet min.

Kyle Boller doesn't belong in the NFL. So on that note, let's sign him up Jerruh.

He would be the back up and if the price is cheap I don't see why not.

I don't know that he is any better or worse than some of the availble backups with starting EXP but I would imagine he would be cheaper than some and I doubt he would have the mind set of someone that would only want to sign to be a starter.

So with that said, people need to get some things out of their heads like the idea that they basically want someone of starting caliber to be the backup. The cowboys are not going to pay a qb starting money to be a backup and most QBs that are of starting caliber are not going to sign as a backup unless they can find nothing else.

He would be young, has some mobility and has a strong arm...about the opposite of BJ. The only thing is he is not as heady for the game as BJ but we saw what just having a head for the game and not the other things got us.

So again...people will rag on this guy or that guy for a backup but they need to remember we are not going to sign a quality starting caliber QB to be the backup so your options are going to be limited.

You're correct. Solid comments. Thanks

If he's cheap, I'd sign him. I'm not sure why people except Tom Brady or Peyton Manning to agree to be a backup here.

1st round busts often develop into solid backups. Boller, Alex Smith ... these are guys to look at. In many cases, they performed poorly because they were asked to jump in too early. First round busts rarely lack the physical skills, they almost alway have problems with the speed of the game and/or grasping the offense. You give a guy like that a few years behind someone to develop and he can be a decent contributor. Of course, this all requires that he get over himself and realize that if he wants to be in the league, he has to embrace the backup role.

Plus it isn't like there are so many starting quality QBs in the league that any will bother with a backup position. There are maybe 25 or so legit starters in this league. Having two guys of that caliber is a major luxury - teams like NE, AZ, and Tenn are paying through the teeth for that.

Boller would make my short list. He can run all the same plays as Romo which is imho a huge plus.

He is not a great QB by any means but he should be able to run the currently installed offense and his arm strength means we can take some deep shots.

Saw Boller a whole bunch here in Baltimore. He has arm strength but can't throw the deep ball accurately. He overall is inaccurate. He struggles with any sort of pressure. He has straight line speed but can't elude tacklers. Really nice kid. Hard worker, smart. He is very tough. I think he would be a good backup QB. He simply is not a starter in the NFL.

Kyle Boller reminds me of a QB that I would really not want in Dallas. Oh wait, that QB is Kyle Boller.

I thought we needed Brock Berlin, John Beck, or Ricky Ray?

Or is that too 2007?

I prefer Beck over Boller.

I'm a Pac-10 homer and while I liked Boller I thought too much got made of his from the knees 65 yard throw. In the NFL he has reminded me a bit of David Carr. Good kid, who just takes too many hits because he hangs onto the ball too long.

That said, I wouldn't hate him as a backup, but I think we can do better. I will be so happy when Brad Johnson is gone. Even happier than I was when Vinny left. I really didn't think that was possible.

Just say no to dinosaur retread QBs.

I agree about Beck. I also feel we made a huge mistake by not holding on to Matt Moore last season.

Just say no to Boller this guy has been given every opportunity in the world and just couldnt put it together. I doubt he ever will.

Jerry loves former 1st rounders. He has a theory that if some how somebody once saw that a player possesed enough ability to be selected in the 1st in this league then maybe something is there. and if its cheap the more the merrier. It make up for lack of talent evaluation skills i guess.
