Last week I heard Adam Sheffner say Kyle Kosier will be a suprise target of several teams and will land a nice contract. He is an O-Lineman from Detroit, and I am starting to see his name come up.

I have to admit I really know nothing about him.

Can anyone comment on Kosier?

3. OG Kyle Kosier Lions

Versatile lineman who has started at tackle and guard but is probably best suited for the latter position. Started 11 games in 2005 and has 40 career starts. Good size and strength and just needs to get to a team that will put him at one spot and keep him there.

I think the obvious interest comes from the need to have a backup who can play multiple positions on the line -- I think he is way too tall for guard though -- he's 6'9".

I can't see him as replacing LA.

More on Kosier from ESPN insider: He is listed # 3 on their list of "sleeper" FAs, but he doesn't crack their "top 50" FAs list...
Kosier has average athletic ability, quickness and foot speed. He has good size but he lacks bulk and overall strength. He plays with excellent intensity, he has very good work ethic and he is tough and aggressive. He is a better run blocker than he is a pass protector but he is not exceptional at either one. He is a position blocker, he lacks good explosion off the ball and he struggle to get any movement at the point of attack. Although he takes decent angles off the ball, he struggles to get to the second level and he can not keep up with fast linebackers in this league. He could not finish a lot of his blocks. He is stiff in the hips, he lacks good change of direction skills and he does not have good balance or body control that you are looking for at the left tackle position. He is not a good space player and he was better working in a confined space at the OG position. He is not a natural knee bender, he plays to high, and he gets driven back and overpowered by bull rushers. He is slow in his pass sets and he could not get set or in position to block speed rusher. He did not use his hand effectively, rusher was able to get into his body and he would get beat with double moves. Overall, Kosier is a fill in player on a short period of time. He has some versatility in that he can play both guard and tackle positions and gives you some depth. But in the long run, he needs to improve his overall strength, bulk and consistency if he wants to take his game to the next level.
