Gee, DUI vs. Multiple failed drug tests.

I think we all can see who the clown is here

I don't see how anyone on this team can overlook a DUI

Ding Ding Ding

Ratliff and Price situations last year alone should have raised the DUI bar a little higher than it might normally be at VR...even if it is just for the near future.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that. The real knock on him is he is immature. Well many are at that age even if they hadn't been in trouble before. So you interview the guy and see if you can work. If he's coachable then you mentor him and give him counseling. But you can have only so many of these on a team as some don't pan out.

I agree there are enough variables that cause failure in the NFL and some aren't just physical. Buyer beware always applies.

I knew that was coming. Perhaps I should have simply said that he doesn't interest me (in any conceivable way).

... except erotically, right? :laugh2:

You're probably missing his last name. As a player, he's a project because he simply doesn't have a ton of experience on the oline but he gets bumped up a few notches based on name recognition.

Arm Length probably too short for OT
6-6, 304 lbs at Senior Bowl (313 at Combine)

A natural weight of 304 lbs would be undersized for 6-2 Guard, for a 6-6 Guard, it is drastically underweight. Tall Guards need extra weight to overcome their leverage disadvantage. Probably needs to be about 325 lbs of "good" weight. I wouldn't consider the extra 9 lbs between the Senior Bowl and combine as good weight.

He can be a LG at 315 and he has the frame to put that weight on pretty easily. He has the athletic ability to play LG. Really good feet. I think he could be a pretty good LG but I also think he has a chance to play RT. His arms are short, that's true and it is a bit of a concern at Tackle but it's an issue, typically, because most RT don't have the athletic ability to compensate. They need long arms to get quick control of the DL before they are by you. With Long, that's not as big of an issue. He is athletic and could probably overcome that lack of arm length. At least, he has a chance to play RG but honestly, I think he has a better chance to be a LG.

We can invite 30 players, we can draft 6. Odds are he won't be drafted.

I don't think you overlook it but I think you look deeper into the player to see any type of history that would lead you to think this is a problem player or not. I don't excuse the DUI on the other hand if this is an isolated incident and there is no extra baggage then it can be seen as a youthful mistake.

As for getting Long I would not mind getting him in 2nd or 3rd rd of the draft, of course depending on character issue.

You have to consider context. Kyle Long was 20 years old at the time. That's certainly a concern but we are talking about something that happened four years ago. That's why you want to talk to him and do some investigation as to his behaviors since.

4 years ago? He is 24? Was he on the 6 year plan?

Motorhead!

Back to the topic...I thought he was 19 when he got the DUI.

I never said draft him before Alvin Bailey, that's what you said. However, since you have asked, I think Long has more upside. I would take Long before I would take Bailey if both were available. JMO
