Nolan stays or go?????? Sounds like finding a replacement WILL NOT be easy unless we simply promote Edwards but is he interested? Not sure that's something we can auto assume.

BTW: Please remember ONLY coaches with expiring or no contracts are available WITHOUT their current team permission. In other words, teams can't block assist coaches from interviewing for HEAD COACHING jobs but other assistant jobs, including coordinators they can. See Jerry and former OL coach Bill Callahan.

Honestly if they were going to keep Moore for OC and play caller they should have brought in a
Defensive HC. MM’s specialty is offense, if he is yielding that to Moore he brings nothing to the table.

A couple names on that list have already been here. Would be happy with either of them.

The rules of the game are in place to promote scoring for fantasy football in order to line the pockets of the greedy owners.

DC jobs are a great way to fail. No one can be any good in this league.

Who with a proven record would come here?

Same problem finding a good HC. With Jerry in charge it’s not going to happen.

Understand but Jerry and the Cowboys have a lot more respect in coaching circles than fans realize. Remember what Urban Myers last year......If Jerry/Cowboys call, you have to take that call.

I just don't think MM and the front office will move on from Nolan after a shorten off-season, mass injuries, several bust fa signings and the loss of their #1 CB. Nolan should get a few high picks and will be tasked to get immediate results. If that fails to happen, 2022 is when we will see a new hire happen. Who knows, MM's job could be in jepoardy if that happens.

It's highly unlikely the Cowboys move on from Nolan. His connection with McCarthy is too strong. Especially if the defense shows any kind of signs of life the rest of the season. The revolving door of players and no offseason/training camp/preseason to get the new defense in place has really handicapped Nolan.

1000%.......exactly
MM would basically have to admit to Jerry and Stephen he made a mistake hiring Nolan. They will have to pay off the last 2 years of his deal AND he needs MORE budget money to hire another DC. That ain't happening......lol

The question about Matt Patricia is was it him or Belichick? Can't really fault him for his HC stint, many DC's fail at recreating what made their name like Buddy Ryan, Marvin Lewis, Romeo Crennel and Wade Phillips.

But the real question is what DC could make a silk purse out of the D talent on this team?

Booger doesn't like paying coaches not to coach.

Dallas has to pick a good system and stick with it. Train the players and draft the right people.

The cover 2 scheme wasn't a good system. It was too simple. Nolan doesn't seem to have a system.

The Steelers have a system. Its been the same system for decades. Its flexible and complex enough that a QB just can't get a pre snap read and pick it apart. Its simple enough that the right players can slot into a position and play well pretty quickly. Over time, they have learned what to look for in the draft and they get the right players frequently.

Dallas has to go for that. I really don't have any faith that Jerry can pull it off. He is still stuck in the 90's but even then, he seems to forget that he had Haley, Deion, Maryland, Lett, Woodson, etc. His scheme only worked because he had all world players. Nowadays, he tries to pull off the same 4-3 with much worse players.

Regardless, the game is about possession. Defenses have to get the opposing team off the field. The best way to do that are sacks (instant drive killers) and turnovers. Bend but don't break schemes don't work with the current rules and overall offensive talent. You are just begging teams to make long drives down the field.

Base defense like 3-4 and 4-3 is a very small part of today’s scheme. It’s all about your nickel looks. Nolan is going with a 4-2-5 look all year and the difference is sometimes the ends stand up and sometimes hand is on the ground.
