Jerry is an amazing owner but honestly, I haven't felt this team has had depth since Jimmy left. To win championships, you need depth because injuries are a given. You have to assume injuries will happen. Look at WR, we have Crayton, Owens and no one else. Aside from Marion Barber, who do we have at RB now that JJ is leaving? Who do we have at QB besides Romo? Our backup is a very old veteran with no mobility and a weak arm. Look at our lack of depth at corner and safety. I could go on.

I'm not saying this to incite the fans but it's something we need to take seriously this offseason. I'm not looking for star players but we need younger players with some experience (not rookies but old near retirement vets either) that can relieve players and succeed.

I have a bad feeling that we are not going to address this lack of depth and will assume everything is fine. That's what scares me. That's what prevents teams from winning championships.

Shouldn't you wait until after the draft and after the FA signing frenzy before rendering a judgement on how well we've addressed our depth issues? What's the point of doing so now when you know we haven't yet even had the opportunity to do so?

Depth or high quality depth? There is depth at the safety position. Keith Davis and Pat Watkins have starting experience. I am not big on Davis as a starter, but he is a decent back up. Draft a potential up grade to the back up role.

Of course running back is thin because we are expecting the loss of Jones. Fortunately running back is one of the easier positions to fill for depth, in my opinion. Teams are finding it easier to find starters and Dallas needs to only find a back up. With this draft, they may even have the opportunity to find a starting caliber back up.

Corner definitely will be addressed in the draft, so I am not too worried there.

Now wide receiver probably won't be answered so quickly. A WR may be drafted, but the impact may not be known for a couple of seasons. Hard to judge.

Depth is important no question.

I think the current squad has good depth at DL, LB, RB & TE. Average depth at CB, S, QB, & OL and poor depth at WR.

Few teams have depth across the board and everyteam's depth (good or bad) has untested players.

Um, last time I checked. We haven't had the draft or gone through Free Agency. This season depth concerned me. Next season it doesn't. Because we now know our secondary is weak, our receiving core is average. Our running game needs some juice, and we need a legit Nose Tackle.

This should be a good draft to address depth if Dallas decides to go the FA route to secure help at WR and CB.

Personally, I wouldn't mind Dallas drafting a guard and ILB in the 1st who compete for a starting job. Guys like Kosier and Ayodele would look good coming off the bench. :D

To paraphrase Rick Pitino, Herschel Walker and Mike Lynn aren't walking through that door.

IMO, you really do not know what kind of depth you have until you need them. We really have not been put in that position as of yet.

Not only that, isn't lack of depth a concern for every team????

Because I'm hoping someone has information to put my worries at ease and contradict my concerns. Jerry is pretty good about telling fans what he will focus on in the offseason. Our recent track record hasn't been great in addressing depth. I thought Parcells did a good job in regards to our defensive line but there are other areas that need concern

It has been since the salary cap was implemented.

Yes, I get it, you feel that we already have depth hence the reason to simply list our roster. I disagree with you. I think we have depth in areas but overall, we are lacking depth.

Depth in my opinion means high quality depth. When teams are referred to as having depth, it means they have several guys they can rotate that are capable of performing at a high level. I'm not just referring to people who have roster spots. But Good post and I agree with your comments. I think it's definitely possible to address these issues in the offseason but doing so is a different issue entirely.

:hammer:

We need to groom rookies in all the key positions that are lacking depth. CB, 2-RB's, WR, QB, and SS. Anybody that watches the team closely will call me captain obvious. Git some good picks Jerruh!!!

Excellent point. The rest of us were only concerned with obtaining low quality depth.......

hmm.

we lost Glenn and Crayton stepped up (and Hurd as well).

we lost Ferguson and Ratliff stepped up (big time).

as much as he is maligned here, Reeves did well subbing for Newman and Henry when they were down.

Where exactly is the depth problem now?
