Yes, I get it, you feel that we already have depth hence the reason to simply list our roster. I disagree with you. I think we have depth in areas but overall, we are lacking depth.

i guess u missed where i added the free agents and draft picks......

hmm.

we lost Glenn and Crayton stepped up (and Hurd as well).

we lost Ferguson and Ratliff stepped up (big time).

as much as he is maligned here, Reeves did well subbing for Newman and Henry when they were down.

Where exactly is the depth problem now?

Barber ran out of gas, JJ can't get it done neither can TT. TO and Glenn were not 100% in the playoffs. We saw how good Grandpa was at qb against the Commanders, c'mon man. Reeves was ok but Jones ain't gonna cut it. Roy is a linebacker pretending to be a SS.

13-3 don't mean squat when you're 1 and done in the playoffs. Yes it was fun early on but it's all about the "Show," you know the one we ain't going to;)

I have a bad feeling that we are not going to address this lack of depth and will assume everything is fine. That's what scares me. That's what prevents teams from winning championships.

* Fans don't care one iota about depth. They're the ones screaming to get rid of Flo and Carp and Jujo And TT and about half our linebackers and most of our cornerbacks (and so on and so forth). They are also the same starry eyed dreamers trying to trade old injured men for Miami's first round draft choice, because the Dolphins are naive and lust after our old men.

* Depth is primarily a function of draft choice numbers and drafting well in the mid to late rounds. That was one thing we did pretty well in the Jeff Ireland era. But Jeff can't be very smart any more, since he now works for Miami and we all know we'll trade two old socks and Greg Ellis or Julius Jones or Flozell Adams for Miami's first round choice.

let's see

we have 3 talented OT backups

we have 2 1st day ILB backups

we have a 1st round OLB backup

we have a plethora of Dline backups

we withstood the loss of our #2 receiver, so we have depth at WR

a 2nd round pick at backup TE, and another good prospect in our 3rd TE

we aren't stacked w/ backups all across the board, but that's kind of hard to do in the salary cap era

Jerry is an amazing owner but honestly, I haven't felt this team has had depth since Jimmy left. To win championships, you need depth because injuries are a given. You have to assume injuries will happen. Look at WR, we have Crayton, Owens and no one else.

Dallas does have Glenn. If he can return to form, they should be okay for 2008.

Aside from Marion Barber, who do we have at RB now that JJ is leaving?

I agree. That's why I didn't too flustered when Jerry didn't guarantee that Julius was on his way out. We could re-sign Julius dirt cheap (where else is he going to go?) and STILL draft a running back and be fine at tailback. So there's no reason to guarantee that Julius will be gone. But doesn't mean that we'll rely on him.

Who do we have at QB besides Romo? Our backup is a very old veteran with no mobility and a weak arm.

This is a bit unfair. Most teams don't have even Brad Johnson at backup. The good thing about Johnson is that he's a good place holder, which is overlooked.

Look at our lack of depth at corner and safety. I could go on.

Corner I agree. Safety is a different story if we re-sign Hamlin. Then you have Roy, Hamlin, Watkins, and perhaps Keith Davis (if he gets re-signed). Look around the league and most teams don't have more depth at safety.

I'm not saying this to incite the fans but it's something we need to take seriously this offseason. I'm not looking for star players but we need younger players with some experience (not rookies but old near retirement vets either) that can relieve players and succeed.

I have a bad feeling that we are not going to address this lack of depth and will assume everything is fine. That's what scares me. That's what prevents teams from winning championships.

I'm not so sure. Jones used the same type of Parcells philosophy of accumulating draft picks, building your roster through the draft and supplementing it/filling holes with free agents this past year.

Dallas can afford a Lance Briggs and could trade up to get McFadden and still have 6 draft picks.

As long as Dallas sticks to the philosophy and gets quality value out of their free agents they will be addressing depth. I also don't think Dallas lacks as much depth as you think, but I think it's something that teams always have to address each year.

JJ as a backup would be something that ANY team would be pleased with.

At best he's a 3rd stringer and should play for no more than $699,999.99 per year...:whip:

Not only that, isn't lack of depth a concern for every team????
Yeah in the salary cap era hoping for the depth the 92 and 93 Cowboys had is just not realistic.

My suggestion, since you're trying to get rid of half our team in a single fell swoop, is that you go try and trade all those players and a pair of old smelly socks to the Miami Dolphins for all their draft choices ;)

JJ, TT, and Nate Jones in one bundle would net a 4rth rounder at best:laugh2:
