La'el Collins ready to replace Ronald Leary at left guard

Rookie La'el Collins knew he’d get an opportunity to start one day. He just didn’t know when it would happen.

Now, he does.

Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Collins will replace Ronald Leary at left guard. Leary, a starter the past two seasons, played poorly against New England.

"We really just watched the tape," Garrett said. "We evaluated his tape vs. Ron's tape over the last couple of weeks and we just feel like he's deserving of this opportunity right now.

"We're going to give LC an opportunity at that spot this week and the chance to start against the Giants next week."

Collins rotated with backup guard Mackenzy Bernadeau earlier this season when Leary missed a game with a strained groin. He’s played 93 snaps this season and been inactive three times.

“This is definitely the start of showing I'm becoming the player I want to be,” Collins said. “I’m just taking that approach every day...

Remember the video of Collins panicking 3 defenders in one play at LSU? He may need to do the same thing--repeatedly-- if we can't force teams to respect our deep threat.

and leave him there, this organzation has a tendency to ruin good things. Place him and leave him.

Looks like they may finally be convinced the status quo doesn't work without Romo. Hopefully they take some work from DMac too.

I don't get all this "DMac needs to lose or have carries taken away."
If anyone needs a demotion, it's Randle. He has no explosion. He's a liability in pass protection. He's a carry away from a costly fumble.

Split carries with DMac and C-Mike and give the scraps to Randle.

Rich man's Larry Allen.

I hope so because that, imo, is what has been missing, even going back to the second half of last season. The other guys are fundamentally sound and consistent when they're healthy, but Larry and Erik before the accident were guys who could physically dominate almost anyone in the league. If this line is ever to be as good as "the great wall," it needs someone like that. Someone who can open holes even when up against the likes of Suh and Logan. It will take some time, and maybe Martin can approach that level if injuries are holding him back, but when they signed Collins I was hoping he'd add that extra punch.
