CHICAGO -- A damaged black Lamborghini registered to Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs was found abandoned early Monday alongside the Edens Expressway on the city's North Side, authorities said.

Illinois State Police officials said the 2007 Roadster was discovered around 3:15 a.m. on northbound I-94 near the Devon Avenue exit. It had crashed into a light pole.

"[The] registration comes back to Lance Briggs, however we don't know who was driving the car at the time," Master Sgt. Kyron St. Clair said.

Police said it doesn't appear that anyone was injured in the crash. Whoever was behind the wheel of the luxury Italian sports car could face misdemeanor charges for improper lane usage and leaving the scene of the accident, St. Clair said.

The vehicle had not been reported stolen, he said.

Authorities were trying to find the 26-year-old Bears star Monday morning to get more information about what might have happened.

Several team spokesmen did not immediately return messages left by The Associated Press early Monday, and phone calls were not answered at the Bears' public relations office.

it's simple, Briggs drove drunk, crashed the ride, and called to get picked up
Wow... That's a rare talent you have there.

it's not a talent, it's called simple logic, but it's you, so I can understand why you consider it a talent

why else leave it abandoned after a crash?

Maybe he had somewhere to go. One of my friends in high school crashed his van during lunch break and left it on the baseball field with a smashed axle. Instead of calling his parents or telling anyone, he just walked away and went to his next class.

True story and yes, he's an idiot. People suspected something was awry when they saw his van parked on the baseball field five minutes later.

I doubt your friend was leaving a lambo, therein lies the difference

How do you know he was driving it?

Jumping to conclusions != logic. Thanks for playing.

OH BTW... there are other reasons to leave a car after crashing it. Did you hear about the guy who crashed the Ferrari Enzo on the PCH, right down the road from my school?

How do you know he didn't? Maybe he has more than one. What details do you know of that make this impossible? please do tell.

Or you could just admit that you're just spouting off some plausible scenario and claiming it's "logic," and you really have no reason to believe it.

And I'm not claiming he wasn't driving it. All I'm saying is you don't KNOW. Subtle distinction that I'm sure you're unaware of.

no, I didn't
The guy obliterated his Enzo on the PCH, wrapping it around a telephone pole. He was racing a Benz McLaren. The guy abandoned his car, ran up the mountain, and when they got to him, he told the cops that someone else was driving it and that he ran off.

Being drunk isn't the only way to wreck a car. I'm not surprised that you assumed that is what happened though.

Briggs charged with leaving scene of accident after crashing Lamborghini

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after crashing his Lamborghini and leaving it alongside an expressway on the city's North Side, Illinois State Police said Monday.

After meeting with police Monday afternoon, Briggs also was cited for failure to give immediate notice of an accident and improper lane usage, said Master Sgt. Luis Gutierrez.

Briggs was released after posting $100 bond. He is scheduled to appear Oct. 4 in a Cook County court.
"As a result of interviewing Mr. Briggs, it was determined that he was the driver of his 2007 Lamborghini," police said in a statement.

Officials said the 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago, which has a Kelley Blue Book value of more than $350,000, had crashed into a light pole and was discovered around 3:15 a.m on Interstate Highway 94.

Bears coach Lovie Smith indicated the team will not discipline Briggs, whose "spirits were good for being in a one-car accident."

Defensive end Adewale Ogunleye said Briggs told him about the crash on Monday morning.

"He said that he crashed the car or something, and I had had to get to meetings, so I didn't have a chance to talk to him," Ogunleye said.

Briggs, who has not addressed the media since reporting to training camp late last month, did not make himself available during Monday's open locker room period. And he had left practice to meet with authorities by the time reporters were admitted.

Briggs' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was not available for comment, according to his brother Jason, who works for Rosenhaus Sports Representation. Jason Rosenhaus also declined comment.

The question is why did he leave his car? Not reporting the accident?

Hmmm, I'm thinking that Bob just might be right.

w/ players getting arrested for DUI's seemingly all the time, what else am I to think? and leaving the scene of an accident is a sure bet that you know you did something wrong, and don't want to get caught, esp. when you're drunk, even moreso in fact, and ESP. when you chance the risk of losing alot of money being an NFL player and the added risk of spending time in jail if caught

worrying about being late to a meeting is a bunch of bull, esp. when he has a good excuse, if he wasn't drunk when he crashed his car, which I doubt very much

That was something the police came to after DOING AN INVESTIGATION... something you clearly didn't do. And that's the way it's supposed to work. But you go ahead and keep thinking you're some "logical" genius because you assumed something. And you may end up being right. Not everyone who jumps to conclusions is always wrong. It's not just a safe habit to get into. You know what they say about people who assume.

What are you to think? You can think whatever you want. You can profess whatever prediction you come to as well. But you better prepare yourself for the possibility that you are wrong.

Well let's see, he posted a whopping bond of $100!!! You don't get bond set at that if there's any evidence of drunk driving. Oh and the Bears aren't disciplining him. Seems to be showing that you are indeed wrong.

For someone who has a DWI, you sure have a problem with the concepts of jumping to conclusions when a court of law is involved.

Is racing a good excuse? Have you got any details whatsoever that lead you to suspect alcohol was involved? Or was it just the fact that someone crashed an expensive car and left the scene? Because that's not enough to convict someone of drunk driving.

If he crashed his own car and no one else was hurt, it seems that charging him with leaving the scene is a bit much. Just some cop trying to get his name in the paper I guess.

As much as it pains me to write, Sacamano is probably right.

Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs said he panicked after he crashed his new Lamborghini along a highway early Monday morning and initially reported his car stolen after abandoning the mangled vehicle.
Briggs, speaking to reporters after practice on Tuesday, said he called a tow truck after leaving the scene and then reported his car was stolen.
"When it happened, the first thing I did was, obviously, I panicked," Briggs said. "I didn't want there to be a big scene there. And so I left the scene. When I left, I called the tow truck. I also was startled, and I called to report that my car was stolen. Within probably 10 minutes, I called back and accepted responsibility for what I did because it was ridiculous in the first place."
Illinois police found the abandoned vehicle, which had hit a light pole and a concrete bridge support, alongside the Edens Expressway on the city's North Side around 3:15 a.m.
