Lance Dunbar tore his Patellar Tendon too?

I'm confused. In addition to his acl and mcl, he also tore his patellar. Why did the cowboys give this guy nearly 2 mill this year when is pretty unlikely to play? Can anybody can confirm that he only counts against our cap if he is actually on the active roster or something?

In addition to his ACL, Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar tore his MCL and patellar tendon last October.

The revelation was caught in an ESPN column by Rotoviz's Jeff Budoff, a licensed orthopedic surgeon. Patellar tendon tears are among the worst injuries an NFL player can suffer, with few known success stories following the injury. As Budoff notes, they "usually" result in a "loss of explosive leg power." Dunbar had his patellar tendon repaired last October, but had to wait until December to undergo ACL surgery. Dunbar recently admitted there is "no timeline" for his return. He could be a reserve/PUP candidate to open 2016.

Why would a player without a contract get an injury settlement? That's why they get guaranteed money. It's not like the Cowboys cut him, his contract was up.

He's another one of those guys that just doesn't exist to me, can't depend on him to stay healthy.

70% of repairs of active duty personnel were either excellent or good at two years. I have no data for professional athletes but they tend to do better as they get better care. I'd suspect the rates of success are similar at least.

I see no reason not to try to keep the guy as my educated guess is he will do well with his surgery.
