I have seen a few mocks posted here today in which a few trade down scenarios occurred. For a trade down to take place, there has to be an attractive option for a team willing to give up an additional, premium pick for. Which prospects can garner interest:

QB-Lance, Fields or Jones (possible 1 could slide)
TE-Pitts (probably rather take him)
WR-Chase, Waddle, maybe DeVonta Smith
T-Sewell (just like Pitts, hard to trade him)

Jax-picks 25/33 is an exact match for 10
Jets-23/34
Miami-18/50 (probably have to add another pick to get 36)

I want to move back from 10 because our needs don't match that spot....

But I also think it's a bad overall draft and moving away from the talent may not be the best long term move.

Tough call.

I'd be very surprised if this was the draft that supposedly fixed this defense.

Slater. My biggest hope is that Slater is there at 10. I think he'd garner interest from several teams. If he is, watch out for Vegas. They need a tackle badly and have 8 picks this season including back to back 3rd rounders at 79 and 80. The Chargers and Vikings might also be players with Slater on the board. I did a mock a few days back where Slater was available and I moved back three spots with the Chargers, picked up a 3rd round pick and was still able to select P. Surtain at 13.

I think this is a really good, really deep draft. I don't know that there will be a lot of players taken in the first round who we will look back on and say, that guy deserved to be taken in the 1st round or not but, I do believe this draft is really deep. Trading down, if we do our home work and don't fall in love with the shinny, this could be a really good way to go IMO.

It will all be about who falls. The last 1st round graded QB or a blue chip TE.

Hell, I would trade down to the 20 area for a 3rd this year and next years first.

If I am Jerry, I put my feelers out to a couple of traditionally bad traders like the Bears. Get the best haul of draft capital you can find.

Of course, this means JJ has fallen in love with a couple of players and will overdraft while leaving a great trade down on the table.

I prefer to stay at 10 and make a pick but IF I'm trading down, I would not want to go outside the top 15. In other words, I'm not leaving Surtain, Slater, Pitts, or Sewell on the table at 10.

The Cowboys are not trading away from one of the corners. We have 10 picks a trade up is more likely.

This is an absolute lie. Our biggest need is cb. There are two top 15 cbs in this draft. Our needs matchup perfectly w where we pick.

No one's opinion is ever a "lie."

I dont agree with you. Big difference.

I disagree with the CB our biggest need. Our biggest need is 1T. The acceptable 1st round position that matches up to a need is CB.
Dallas has Diggs, Lewis and Brown, so no huge need, but I do understand that CB is probably the pick, as it should be under the circumstances.

An all-pro 1T makes the DE's better because they are suddenly on islands with tackles, and know the QB can't step up. He makes the LB's better by shielding them from interior linemen getting to the 2nd level. The better the 1T is, the harder it is to pass, and passing has to happen quicker, allowing for DBs to cover a shorter length of time. I have no clue where you get an all-pro 1T........but by quite a big margin, he is the biggest need, at least in my opinion. He can't be the fat guy that can't push the pocket or get pressure, as that isn't it. He can't be the lightweight quick twitch penetrating guy or you just let him penetrate and run right behind where he vacated, like many teams have done to Dallas the last few years. He needs to be the guy that one guy can't handle so they require two to double him all game long, and he still needs to be able to push them back when you send "others" up the middle and force him to be singled or blitzars running free. Dallas needs a 1T that teams have to game plan against. Dallas needs 1T that goes through linemen and not one that only tries to win with gap penetration. Everyone else on the line can one gap, but Dallas needs one guy who 2 gaps in the middle and can do it efficiently.

Plausible scenarios

I think this is the perfect draft to move back a little in the first, and them move up aggressively in the second and third for anyone slipping. This team doesnt need 5 more 4-7 rounds picks. It needs top of the barrel talent. If this team can somehow come away with 4-5 picks in the first two days, then I think they've put themselves in the best position to get over the hump.

If you're not going to be aggressive in FA, you have to be aggressive in the draft. You have to go after the premium talent in the first few rounds.

If Slater is there at 10 we need to draft him.
