I think our "real" fans as displayed in this forum could talk football up and down to any other opposing fan. I would say the majority do fall under the bandwagon mantra unfortunately. Many don't even really like football, so they just associate themselves as Cowboys fans because it is/was mainstream. There are just as many idiot "true fans" though. With the exception of "football cities" like Pitt and maybe Cleveland, the common citizen/fan doesn't know a lick about football with any depth. I sometimes get excited because I think I will have a good football debate with fans of other teams because I falsely assume these fans "know" their team when in fact I know more about their team, scheme, coaches (non hc's) etc then they do. You get that, "chill out bro" gaze usually....
I've said before and I'll say it again.... Cowboys fans are by far the most loyal, the most passionate, the most knowledgeable fans in professional sports.
The difference between our fan base and others is the intrinsic value the Cowboys have brought to their fans lives... the team's history is stuffed to the gills with exciting moments both good and bad. Any time a game can create that kind of emotion it sticks to your ribs like glue and you look forward to following a team that makes you "feel".
And I say the Cowboys fans are the most knowledgeable fans because I consider myself to be top tier in terms of football knowledge and remembering game situations and results etc., but there are members of this board who educate me DAILY, and it's humbling to be quite honest.
I will never stop being a fan of the Cowboys because I love the team with all my heart and all the - broken, prideful, and hopeful moments they have given me. Part of me believes the reason the team is hated is because of those moments that they have not experienced via their own fandom. Other teams sleep with their lights on when it comes to them.... "They're dead right? Yeah they're dead..." Well we're never dead, we're the Phoenix of the NFL.
They've given me tons of great moments to suddenly stop cheering for them. Things will turn again for us someday for sure.
